Job description

The Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on company fleet vehicles and mobile equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role supports company operations by minimizing downtime, maintaining compliance with safety standards, and keeping fleet assets in optimal working condition. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Location/Schedule: Macon, GA / 1st shift

Requirements

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles and mobile equipment, including forklifts, boom trucks, man lifts, service trucks, portable welders, generators, and related equipment.
  • Service gas and diesel engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, tire repair/replacement, and brake service.
  • Maintain and repair forklifts ranging from 5,000 lb to 80,000 lb capacity.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and perform necessary repairs.
  • Order service and repair parts for fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist plant and facilities personnel with maintaining service equipment as needed.
  • Maintain organized fleet maintenance building, tools, and work areas.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other heavy equipment as required.
  • Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and timelines to management and internal customers.
  • Complete maintenance documentation and service records accurately
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Assist and train laborers as assigned.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Keeps equipment operational by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Utilizes and abides by all safety procedures.
  • Willing to perform other manufacturing tasks as directed and when needed.
  • Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Who You Are:

  • General knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Understanding of tools, materials, and supplies used in fleet maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and with multiple departments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience as a fleet mechanic, automotive mechanic, or heavy equipment mechanic preferred.
  • Technical or vocational training in automotive or diesel technology is a plus.
