Job description

Diesel field mechanics identify faults through diagnostic testing on vehicles and equipment, and then repair or replace engine, steering, transmission, braking, lighting, hydraulic or electrical system components in the field. They should be technical experts, problem solvers, effective communicators, detailed, reliable, and organized to succeed independently in a challenging field environment.

Responsibilities

  • Run and analyze diagnostic tests on vehicles and equipment.
  • Repair or replace components on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Test drive vehicles and equipment to gauge performance.
  • Adhere to inspection checklist procedures.
  • Perform preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain detailed service records.
  • Maintain parts inventory.
  • Maintain service vehicle.
  • Drive safely and courteously.
  • Ensure cleanliness of service vehicle and shop.
  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance, communication, and behavior.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience as a Master Trailer Technician repairing and maintaining fleets of Hyundai Translead, Wabash, Utility, Great Dane, Stoughton, Vanguard National, Pitts Trailers, Fontaine, EnTrans, MAC, MANAC, Fruehauf, XPO Logistics, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of trailer systems, repairs, and replacements such as: brakes, electrical, suspension, air, hydraulics, floor, roof, body, door, hinges, frames, liftgates, headers, rails, bows, panels, crossmembers, landing gear, king pins, dolly legs, rear impact guards, and reefers.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Basic welding skills.
  • Must pass a DOT physical exam, drug test, and background check required).
  • Advanced knowledge of diesel engines, components, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of associated electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Previous experience as a diesel field mechanic.
  • Own a basic diesel mechanic’s tool set.
  • Proficient with diagnostic and shop software systems.
  • Physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds from the ground.
  • Experience with heavy construction equipment (preferred, not required).
  • Graduated from a mechanical or automotive technical program (preferred, not required).
  • ASE Diesel Certification (preferred, not required).
  • CDL license (preferred, not required).

Diesel MD

Diesel MD is DFW’s primary care provider for truck, trailer, and heavy equipment maintenance and repair. Our purpose is to enhance the availability and longevity of our vehicle patients for both fleet managers and independent owners. We do this through:

  • Physician mechanics that perform preventative maintenance and curative repairs in our shop-based clinics.
  • Urgent care EMTs (Emergency Mobile Technicians) that make house calls to distressed vehicles.
