Contractors focus on automating workflows, deploying code, monitoring systems, and ensuring reliable, scalable infrastructure. These roles are typically hired for a specific duration to help companies accelerate software delivery, improve system reliability, or implement new DevOps tools and practices. Contract DevOps Engineers often work with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management tools. Their responsibilities may vary based on project needs and company goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DevOps engineer contractor?

To thrive as a DevOps Engineer Contractor, you need expertise in cloud platforms, automation, CI/CD pipelines, and a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Terraform, and certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer are highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills set standout candidates apart in cross-functional environments. These abilities are crucial for delivering reliable, scalable solutions and ensuring efficient development and deployment processes in dynamic project settings.

Senior Civil Engineer (Contract)

Calgary, AB • Hybrid

Full-time

Posted 13 days ago

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to support our Civil & Structural team during a peak period of project delivery.
This is a contract opportunity suited to someone who can quickly step into a project environment, take ownership of defined design packages and deliver work independently with minimal support.

The role will support civil engineering design activity across a range of projects, with initial work expected to sit within the Power sector. Project work may include drainage, hardstanding, utilities and road interfaces linked to substations. There may also be opportunities to support nuclear and defence projects, subject to the relevant security clearance requirements.

The role can be based in our London, Warwick or Manchester office, with a hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver civil engineering design packages across a broader civils scope.
  • Take ownership of defined work packages and progress them independently.
  • Apply technical knowledge across drainage, earthworks, pavement design, external works, levels, utilities and associated infrastructure.
  • Coordinate design information and interfaces across wider project teams and disciplines.
  • Use relevant design tools, including MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage and Civil 3D.
  • Support project delivery across infrastructure, power, buildings or development environments.

About You

We are keen to hear from candidates with a rounded civil engineering background.
This role is not suited to someone whose experience is limited solely to drainage design; the successful candidate should be able to demonstrate broader civil engineering capability across wider site and infrastructure elements.

  • Relevant civil engineering qualification or degree.
  • Experience using MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage and Civil 3D.
  • Strong technical knowledge of earthworks, drainage, pavement design and external works.
  • Broader civil engineering design experience, including levels, utilities, ducts and associated infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of 3D underground services coordination.
  • Experience delivering defined design packages independently.
  • Ideally Chartered, or an Incorporated Member of ICE

Why Join Us?

  • Exposure to diverse and complex projects across multiple sectors.
  • Work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Flexible/hybrid working options.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to security clearance or security assurance levels. (Basic clearance will be required for initial Power sector work. SC clearance will be required for any nuclear or defence project work.)
The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements.
In some cases, additional nationality or residency criteria may also apply due to specific client or national security obligations.
Further information on National security clearance levels can be found on the UK Government website: (National security vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK)
