Devops Automation information

Is DevOps a high paying job?

DevOps automation roles are generally well-compensated due to the high demand for skills in cloud platforms, scripting, and infrastructure management. Salaries vary based on experience, location, and certifications, but they tend to be above average compared to other IT roles.

Is Devops Automation still in demand in 2026?

Devops Automation remains in high demand in 2026 as organizations continue to prioritize continuous integration, deployment, and infrastructure management. Skills in tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms are highly valued, and the role is expected to grow with increasing adoption of automation and DevOps practices across industries.

What is automation in DevOps?

Automation in DevOps involves using tools and scripts to streamline and automate software development, testing, deployment, and infrastructure management processes. It helps improve efficiency, reduce errors, and enable continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices. Common tools include Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes, which facilitate rapid and reliable software releases.

Job description

DevOps Automation Engineer (Infrastructure & Cloud Automation) Linchpin Software is a specialized software development firm supporting a federal agency in the National Capital Region. We are expanding our team and looking for a senior DevOps engineer who thinks like a developer - someone who automates relentlessly, treats infrastructure as code, and would rather script a solution than repeat a manual task. This is an opportunity to join a mature program while working alongside experienced engineers, contributing to the automation, reliability, and modernization of mission-critical systems. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who lives at the intersection of software development and operations, and who is excited to build and lead the pipelines, tooling, and infrastructure that keep a high-performing engineering team moving fast. We are building software differently. Our team actively leverages AI-augmented development tools (such as coding agents) to accelerate automation, streamline debugging, and improve overall engineering quality. If you are curious, adaptable, and eager to multiply your capabilities with modern tools, you will fit right in. Location:
On-site in Chantilly, VA with telework options available upon request. Clearance Requirement:
Active Top Secret clearance required. Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain infrastructure as code to provision and manage cloud and on-premise environments
- Develop automation scripts and tooling to eliminate manual processes and improve engineering efficiency
- Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for reliable, repeatable deployments
- Integrate and automate workflows using cloud provider APIs and SDKs
- Collaborate with development teams to improve build, test, and release processes
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve system reliability, performance, and security
- Mentor junior engineers and help shape automation standards and best practices
- Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies and team collaboration
- Continuously learn and adopt new tools, including AI-assisted development techniques Required Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of experience in DevOps, automation, or software engineering, including: - Strong scripting and development skills in a language such as Python, Go, Bash, JavaScript, or TypeScript - Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or Pulumi - Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar) - Experience working with cloud platforms and their APIs (AWS, Azure, or GCP) - Solid understanding of Linux systems administration and networking fundamentals - Experience with version control (git) and modern development workflows Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with configuration management and secrets management tools
- Experience with monitoring and observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar)
- Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and security automation
- Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases
- Curiosity and willingness to explore AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, GitLab Duo) What You'll Gain:
- Hands-on experience across a wide range of engineering and automation disciplines
- Opportunity to lead and mentor within a talented engineering team
- Exposure to mission-critical systems and real-world impact
- Opportunity to shape modern development and automation practices using AI augmentation
- A clear growth path within a stable, long-term program Linchpin Software offers competitive compensation and benefits, along with a collaborative environment focused on technical excellence and continuous improvement.
