What is a Devin?

Devin is an AI-powered software engineering platform designed to automate tasks that are traditionally performed by human developers. It can write code, debug, perform code reviews, and even manage end-to-end software projects with minimal human supervision. Devin acts as an autonomous agent, collaborating with teams to streamline workflows, increase productivity, and reduce the time needed to deliver software solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software developer?

To thrive as a Software Developer, you need proficiency in programming languages (such as Java, Python, or JavaScript), problem-solving abilities, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, development frameworks, and relevant certifications (such as AWS Certified Developer) are often required. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help developers excel in collaborative and fast-paced environments. These skills and qualities ensure the ability to build efficient software solutions, work effectively with others, and adapt to evolving technology.

What are some common challenges software developers face when collaborating with cross-functional teams?

Job description

We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Vice President, Full Stack Engineer to join our Data and Analytics Solutions team. This role is located in Boston, MA. Additionally, open to other BNY locations such as Pittsburgh, PA, and Lake Mary, FL.

Data and Analytics is a cloud-based software and content offering that builds client-centric data, technology, and content capabilities, combining the expertise of the Data Vault, Eagle product suite, and other BNY technology and data assets. The division extends BNY’s Asset Servicing capabilities in securities and cash into the world’s most important asset class — data. We are investing in people and technology to construct and execute the next generation SaaS, and our engineering teams take ownership of building, delivering, and operating large-scale services in the public cloud. If you are an engineer who is equally comfortable writing application code and building out the infrastructure, tooling, and pipelines that keep systems reliable, agile, and scalable, then we have the right challenge for you.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Lead implementation of scalable full-stack applications and microservices using Java, Python, and modern front-end frameworks; develop and consume RESTful APIs with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and testability.
  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Jenkins - Groovy (pipeline-as-code), and Harness for continuous delivery — ensuring fast, safe, and repeatable deployments from dev to prod.
  • Provision and manage Azure Cloud infrastructure through Terraform; champion Infrastructure as Code, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery practices across agile teams.
  • Build, deploy, and operate containerized workloads on Kubernetes, leveraging KEDA for event-driven autoscaling, Chainguard images for supply-chain security, Artifactory for artifact management, and service mesh (Consul or Istio) for secure service-to-service communication.
  • Create monitoring, alerting, and metrics-driven automation using New Relic; exercise Root Cause Analysis and construct automation to prevent problem recurrence and ensure platform reliability.
  • Ensure code quality and security by leveraging SonarQube, automated testing frameworks, and shift-left security practices; troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across the full stack and infrastructure.
  • Work with Snowflake and PostgreSQL for data platform integrations, query optimization, and data pipeline reliability.
  • Build Slack integrations (webhooks, bots, workflow automations) and leverage AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Devin/Windsurf, Cursor) to streamline engineering workflows and accelerate delivery.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, analysts, and engineers to translate financial domain requirements into working software; participate in agile ceremonies and provide guidance on technical direction.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development required; experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
  • Strong expertise in Java (Spring Boot / Spring MVC) and Python with demonstrated ability to build production microservices; strong scripting skills in Bash and Groovy.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production — deploying, scaling, and troubleshooting containerized workloads; familiarity with KEDA, Helm, and service mesh (Consul or Istio).
  • Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and management in Azure Cloud; Linux systems administration (Debian/Ubuntu) including performance tuning and security.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines as code (GitHub, Jenkins - Groovy-based pipelines); experience with Harness for continuous delivery preferred.
  • Experience with observability and APM platforms such as New Relic — building dashboards, alerts, and SLOs; proficiency with SonarQube for static analysis and code quality enforcement.
  • Proficient in relational databases (PostgreSQL) — schema design, query optimization, stored procedures; familiarity with Snowflake for analytics and data platform integrations.
  • Experience with supply-chain security tooling (Chainguard, Artifactory, image signing/SBOMs), Slack integrations, and AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Devin/Windsurf, Cursor).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support mentoring junior engineers, effective cross-team collaboration, and driving DevOps culture across the organization.

At BNY, our culture allows us to run our company better and enables employees’ growth and success. As a leading global financial services company at the heart of the global financial system, we influence nearly 20% of the world’s investible assets. Every day, our teams harness cutting-edge AI and breakthrough technologies to collaborate with clients, driving transformative solutions that redefine industries and uplift communities worldwide.
