Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (AS) sector is seeking a Mission Systems Chief Engineer (CE). This role is based out of Melbourne, FL.

The selected candidate is responsible for the integrity of the mission systems technical baseline and the development of mission systems subsystems, components and software to meet platform mission requirements. The candidate will drive critical technical solutions, inform robust risk and opportunity management and support strategic initiatives, ensuring operational performance and sustainability for delivered products. Candidate will provide technical leadership to the various mission systems portfolio teams by setting the technical direction for the team to execute, guiding the flow down and decomposition of system level architecture/requirements, and support tracking and reporting all relevant metrics to the IPT and Dev*Ops CE. Candidate will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with peers and top leadership and briefing executive and customer leadership. Candidate will report to the Dev*Ops CE.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Maintains cognizance over technical activities within the Dev*Ops Mission Systems Integrated Product Team (MS IPT) and ensures the program, including Suppliers, is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, integration and verification of mission systems capabilities
  • Provides guidance for all related technical activities and is responsible for the integrity of the program technical baseline, technical products and interfaces with the USN Customer / Partners / Suppliers
  • Coordinates with the MS IPT Program Manager to ensure execution of the programs within an established cost and schedule baseline
  • Leads the technical baseline development, ensures configuration management of the design, ensures detail design approaches follow Sector processes and procedures, leads the top design/architecture approaches, and drives reuse of design concepts from across the Sector
  • The successful applicant will have demonstrated knowledge and experience of platform mission systems including mission computing, communications and sensors. In addition, leadership and communication skills are important to help drive issues to closure and provide clear insight to leadership. Experience and ability to work Agile concepts across multiple fields including software, and integration and test is required

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 16 years of related professional and/or military experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 14 years of related professional and/or military experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Aircraft Mission Systems technical baseline management
  • Experience in supporting Supplier SSOW, SRD and scope discussions for technical lines between organization, deliverables, and expectations
  • Experience with Requirement Development and Management supporting product, function, and allocated baselines
  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Top Secret clearance
  • Ability to travel as needed (approx. 25%)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active U.S. government Top Secret/SCI clearance
  • Experience with NAVAIR SETR Process for PDR, CDR, etc.
  • Experience across lifecycles including Research and Design, Product Development or New Product Introduction, Production, and Sustainment
  • Experience implementing action plans based on metrics and/or root cause/corrective actions
  • Demonstrated success as an engineering leader over large teams
  • Exceptional communication skills

Primary Level Salary Range: $166,500.00 - $249,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
