Development Manager Job information

How does a Development Manager typically balance technical leadership with team management responsibilities?

Development Managers often juggle both technical oversight and people management. This means not only guiding project architecture and ensuring code quality, but also mentoring team members, conducting performance reviews, and facilitating professional growth. Balancing these demands requires strong organizational skills and the ability to delegate tasks effectively, often relying on senior developers for technical deep-dives while focusing on strategic planning and team cohesion. Regular communication with both technical staff and stakeholders is essential to align goals and address challenges proactively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Development Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Development Manager, you need expertise in fundraising, relationship management, and strategic planning, often supported by a degree in business, nonprofit management, or a related field. Familiarity with donor management systems (such as Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge), CRM tools, and fundraising software is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and networking skills help you build lasting partnerships and motivate teams. These skills are crucial for meeting fundraising goals, driving organizational growth, and sustaining donor engagement.

What are Development Managers?

They manage projects, coordinate resources, and ensure that software or product development aligns with business goals and timelines. Their role often includes mentoring team members, setting technical direction, and communicating with stakeholders to ensure project success. Development Managers play a crucial part in bridging the gap between technical teams and upper management.
