Senior Natural/ADABAS Developer – Child Support Systems

Location: Jackson, Mississippi 39211
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Employment Type: Long-Term Contract / Staff Augmentation
Number of Openings: 1
Expected Start Date: September 2, 2026
Expected End Date: September 2, 2029
Contract Duration: Approximately 3 years
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Hours: 40 hours per week

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Natural/ADABAS Developer to join an application development and production-support team responsible for a mission-critical statewide child support system.

The selected developer will support, enhance, and maintain complex enterprise applications built with Natural and ADABAS. The role also includes modernizing existing processes, developing integrations with systems on other technology platforms, and automating current business functions.

This position requires extensive Natural/ADABAS development experience, knowledge of automated child support systems, experience working on large-scale Linux applications, and the ability to support the complete application lifecycle.

Key ResponsibilitiesNatural/ADABAS Development
  • Develop, enhance, maintain, and support enterprise applications using Natural and ADABAS.
  • Develop and execute Natural processes in batch environments using JCL and/or SCL.
  • Develop and support online Natural applications.
  • Analyze existing application functionality and recommend technical improvements.
  • Design and implement application enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot application, database, batch-processing, and production issues.
  • Support application automation and modernization initiatives.
  • Integrate existing applications with systems operating on other platforms.
Child Support System Support
  • Support a statewide automated child support system.
  • Apply knowledge of child support policies, procedures, and business processes.
  • Interpret state and federal child support mandates.
  • Design and implement system changes required by regulatory or policy updates.
  • Work with business stakeholders to understand operational needs.
  • Ensure system enhancements align with program requirements and applicable mandates.
System Architecture and Technical Leadership
  • Provide subject-matter expertise regarding system architecture.
  • Evaluate technical options and recommend appropriate system enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing applications, processes, and integrations.
  • Assist teams with resolving complex application and architecture issues.
  • Support technical planning for system modernization and technology upgrades.
Analysis and Design
  • Analyze business, system, and technical requirements.
  • Design solutions for large or complex development initiatives.
  • Evaluate existing application architecture and processing workflows.
  • Translate business requirements into technical designs.
  • Participate in application design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance activities.
Testing and Quality Assurance
  • Develop and execute unit tests for Natural/ADABAS applications.
  • Validate application enhancements before deployment.
  • Troubleshoot defects and identify root causes.
  • Support regression and production-validation testing.
  • Document test results and corrective actions.
  • Ensure application changes meet technical and business requirements.
Documentation and Training
  • Develop, maintain, and update technical and operational documentation.
  • Document application procedures, policies, processes, and system changes.
  • Create end-user instructions and reference materials.
  • Train end users on application functionality and updated processes.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to business and technical stakeholders.
Production and On-Call Support
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Respond to production incidents and application issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve batch, online-processing, database, and integration problems.
  • Coordinate with technical and business teams during critical incidents.
  • Support stable operation of mission-critical applications.
Minimum Mandatory Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate the following experience on their resumes:

  • At least 10 years of Natural programming and ADABAS experience.
  • Experience running Natural processes in batch using JCL and/or SCL, as well as supporting online Natural applications.
  • At least 2 years of experience analyzing, designing, and programming large or complex applications on large-scale Linux systems.
  • At least 4 years of experience supporting automated child support systems.
  • At least 3 years of experience providing subject-matter expertise on system architecture.
  • At least 3 years of experience recommending enhancements to systems and business processes.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing and maintaining procedures, policies, process documentation, and technical materials.
  • At least 3 years of experience training end users on software applications.
Additional Mandatory Child Support Experience
  • At least 2 years of knowledge and experience with child support policies, procedures, and current state and federal mandates.
  • At least 2 years of experience interpreting, designing, and implementing state or federal mandates within Linux-based systems.

  • Experience supporting both online and batch application environments.
  • At least four years supporting an automated child support system.
  • Knowledge of child support policies and state and federal mandates.
  • Experience implementing regulatory changes in Linux-based applications.

  • Experience modernizing legacy applications and integrating them with newer platforms.
  • Advanced unit-testing and production-support experience.
