Developer Project Manager information

What is a Developer Project Manager?

A Developer Project Manager is a professional who oversees software development projects from inception to completion. They bridge the gap between technical development teams and business stakeholders, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Their responsibilities include planning project timelines, coordinating team members, managing risks, and tracking progress. Developer Project Managers often have a background in software development, which helps them understand technical challenges and communicate effectively with developers.

What does a Developer Project Manager do?

A Developer Project Manager often wears two hats—leading the project while contributing technically. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong time management and prioritization skills. Generally, the project manager will allocate specific hours for coding or technical reviews and dedicate separate blocks for meetings, planning, and stakeholder communication. Clear delegation of tasks to team members and the use of project management tools also help maintain this balance, ensuring neither aspect is neglected. This hybrid role offers valuable insight into both project oversight and technical execution, making it ideal for professionals who enjoy both leadership and hands-on work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Developer Project Manager?

To thrive as a Developer Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, a deep understanding of software development processes, and usually a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools like Jira or Trello, agile methodologies, and certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master are often required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help foster collaboration between technical teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the desired quality standards in a dynamic tech environment.

Can a developer be a project manager?

A developer can transition into a project management role, especially if they develop skills in planning, communication, and leadership. Many project managers in tech have backgrounds in development and obtain certifications like PMP or Scrum Master to support their transition.

Overview

Manager: Post-Merger Integration

Are you a strong project manager, who brings a deep understanding of the engineering consulting industry, with a drive to improve current methodologies to help build a scalable and effective integration framework.  If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and see yourself taking the lead in helping newly acquired companies integrate into the Dillon employee owned culture, this opportunity is for you.

Your Opportunity

Dillon Consulting Limited is seeking a highly motivated integration specialist to be a foundational member of our growing M&A team. Reporting directly to the Director of Mergers and Acquisitions, this hybrid role bridges the gap between our strategic acquisition initiatives and our operational execution.

This is a new position and can be based in our London ON office. We offer flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

About Dillon

At Dillon, we strive to remain at the forefront of technology and innovation and thrive on interdisciplinary collaboration, empowering our people to challenge conventional thinking and build careers focused on creating a lasting impact in our communities. We are committed to ongoing professional development and celebrate the unique perspectives that each team member brings to the table.

Employee ownership is available to all Dillon team members, and over 60% of our employees own shares in Dillon. Through employee ownership, we return the financial benefit created by our project work to the very people who created that value. Because we are an employee-owned firm, your voice will be an essential part of our shared success.

Responsibilities

Post-Merger Management & Integration

  • Take the lead in helping newly acquired companies integrate into the Dillon culture and track post-merger operational performance.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive 30/60/90-day integration plans, ensuring smooth transitions for systems, processes, and personnel.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for newly acquired teams to resolve integration bottlenecks.

  • Assist in the operational due diligence process, identifying risks, synergies, and integration requirements.

Change Management & Business Partnership

  • Translate complex integration strategies into clear, actionable insights for business leaders across both Dillon and the acquired firms.
  • Support the training of stakeholders-including leaders of newly acquired firms-to ensure they understand Dillon's operating models and can effectively leverage new resources.

Process Optimization & Reporting

  • Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex integration frameworks clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Continuous Improvement: Improvement-focused and comfortable identifying gaps in existing processes to build a stronger integration engine.
Experience
  • 3-6 years of experience in project management, operations, or change management, specifically within the engineering, environmental, or planning consulting industry.
  • Direct exposure to M&A integration is a strong asset.
  • Comfortable working with large, complex datasets and can conceptualize multidimensional data structures. You enjoy both building new pipelines and optimizing existing logic.
  • Proven proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation is considered an asset.
  • Experience challenging existing processes to drive efficiency and utility.
  • Experience working in and contributing to a Continuous Improvement-focused environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely.
