Job description

The Facilities Mechanical Engineer reports to the Facilities Manager and is responsible for maintaining, improving, and optimizing the performance, reliability, and compliance of facility mechanical systems in an industrial manufacturing environment. This role also leads and supports facility capital projects from concept through commissioning, working closely with Maintenance, Production, Quality, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and Engineering teams to support safe operations, asset reliability, energy efficiency, and cost reduction. Essential Functions: Design, maintain, and improve facility mechanical systems including HVAC, compressed air, steam, chilled water, plumbing, and process utilities Lead facility capital projects including scope development, conceptual and detailed design, budgeting, scheduling, execution, commissioning, and close-out Develop project justifications, cost estimates, and return-on-investment (ROI) analyses for capital funding requests Manage capital project budgets, schedules, and contractor performance to ensure delivery within approved scope, cost, and timeline Analyze and troubleshoot facility and utility system performance issues to ensure reliable plant operations Plan and execute replacement or upgrade of obsolete facility equipment and infrastructure Develop technical specifications, bid packages, and scopes of work for equipment, construction, and engineering services Review and develop mechanical drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, and system flow diagrams Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to minimize production impact during capital project execution Oversee, direct, and supervise contractors and consultants during construction, modification, installation, startup, and commissioning of facility systems Ensure capital projects comply with applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and company policies Implement reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainability improvements through capital investments Lead and participate in problem-solving and root cause analysis efforts related to facility systems Analyze utility usage and system performance data to support continuous improvement initiatives Support operations by ensuring facility systems meet production, quality, and safety requirements Manage special facility, infrastructure, and expansion projects as directed Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities typically required to perform the essential functions of this job: Knowledge of: Facility mechanical systems (HVAC, utilities, plumbing, fire protection, compressed air, steam, chilled water) Capital project lifecycle including planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover Industrial facility design standards, codes, and regulatory requirements Preventive and predictive maintenance practices Energy management and sustainability principles Capital funding, budgeting, and cost control practices Skilled in: Capital project and construction management Contractor and vendor coordination Project scheduling, cost tracking, and risk management Advanced computer and software skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs Communicating and interacting professionally with all levels of staff Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, and blueprints Ability to: Work independently and within cross-functional teams Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple capital and maintenance projects simultaneously Make sound engineering decisions with limited supervision Read and understand technical manuals, engineering drawings, and specifications Apply safe work practices in an industrial manufacturing environment Education, Certifications, and Experience: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting industrial facilities and mechanical systems Demonstrated experience leading or supporting capital facility projects Working Conditions under which the essential functions of this job are typically performed: Majority of job duties performed in a typical office setting Frequent presence in an industrial manufacturing environment Exposure to noise, vibration, heat/cold, and industrial mobile equipment Occasional local travel to vendor, contractor, or project sites Consolidated Precision Products (CPP) is an industry-leading manufacturer of highly-engineered components and sub-assemblies, supplying the commercial aerospace, military and industrial markets with small-to-large "function critical" products.
