OPERATIONS ENGINEER
Role Summary
This position is a member of the plant production leadership team. This position ensures good coordination between the production planner and the operations group. Work with operators to help with execution of the plan. Work with operators to identify and close any gaps between plan and current production. Coach/mentor operators. Ensure operators have proper capability and employ appropriate procedures. This position is the operations representative on capital projects. Ensure that the operations perspective is included in project plan.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work with production planner to ensure good coordination between production needs and current plant capability
  • Work with plant operators to help deliver the production plan.
  • Work with plant operators to diagnose process and equipment issues – coach/mentor operators in approach to diagnosis
  • Define production work-process, ensure understanding of production work process throughout plant organization, ensure implementation of production work process.
  • Execute work in safe and environmentally responsible way.
  • Review production and lost opportunity data with process engineers-develop path to resolve issues-ultimately improve plant efficiency
    • Measures include lost opportunity, availability, utilization
  • Utilize root cause analysis on critical issues and implement appropriate fixes.
  • Work with maintenance team on maintenance/reliability issues and path to resolve
  • Operations representative on project execution team.

Competencies
Required:
  • Minimum of a BS in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 3-5 years of industrial experience in chemical plant or refinery operations.
  • Demonstrated field experience in analyzing and determining needed corrective action in chemical process and equipment issues including leadership abilities.
  • Some experience in project execution.
  • Must have experience with Chemithon or similar sulfunation and sulfation systems.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capability working with operators and maintenance technicians.
  • Proven team player with good peer and subordinate relationship skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in continuous improvement.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve plant issues in team and individual settings. Ability to make progress on multiple concurrent tasks, prioritize work based on business needs, balance short and long-term plant needs.
  • Proven “hands on” skills that include measuring and improving process performance and leading, instructing, and training others in those improvements.
  • Competency in process design and optimization.
  • Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this job, the incumbent must take and pass regular and routine chemical dependency tests.
Recommended:
  • Advanced courses in engineering and seminars in diagnosis/troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on business contribution.
  • Training and experience in project management.
  • Experience with Distributive Control Systems (DCS); preferably Delta V and ideally to include programming experience.
  • Good personal computer skills preferably experience with MS Office.
  • Training in organization and time management.
