Position Overview
SubCom is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will help to drive operational excellence across our processes, systems, and teams. This role blends problem solving with data analytics and Lean methodology to eliminate waste, improve flow, and strengthen performance. You will partner with marine & manufacturing operations, engineering, quality, project management and supply chain to deliver measurable, sustainable improvements.
Responsibilities
  • Lean & CI Program
    • Support Kaizen events, value stream mapping, and rapid improvement workshops.
    • Coach teams on Lean tools (5S, standard work, visual management, SMED, Kanban).
    • Support deployment of CI roadmaps, maturity assessments, and cultural adoption.
  • Process Optimization
    • Analyze current processes using time studies, spaghetti diagrams, and workflow analysis.
    • Identify bottlenecks, waste, and variation; propose and implement optimized solutions.
    • Improve throughput, cycle time, labor efficiency, and equipment utilization.
  • Data & Performance Analytics
    • Use data (OEE, scrap, downtime, takt time, capacity models) to diagnose issues and prioritize improvements.
    • Build dashboards and KPIs to monitor performance and sustain gains.
    • Partner with IT ERP teams to ensure accurate data capture and reporting.
  • Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis
    • Facilitate structured problem solving (A3, 8D, fishbone, 5 Why).
    • Drive corrective and preventive actions with cross-functional teams.
    • Validate effectiveness of solutions through trials, metrics, and audits.
  • Project Execution
    • Participate in CI projects from concept through implementation, ensuring measurable ROI.
    • Support layout changes, equipment upgrades, and process redesigns.
    • Collaborate with engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain to ensure alignment.
  • Standardization & Sustainment
    • Develop and maintain standard work, visual controls, and process documentation.
    • Conduct layered audits to verify adherence and identify gaps.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Process, Industrial, Mechanical), Operations, or related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in manufacturing, operations, or continuous improvement roles.
  • Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and structured problem solving.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher, preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and Power BI.
  • Ability to influence without authority and work effectively across functions.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
