Job Title: Google Cloud Platform Engineer
Location: 100% Remote but in Colorado
Duration: 6+ Months
Overview
  • We are seeking an experienced Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) Cloud Engineer to support cloud migration, modernization, and infrastructure automation initiatives within a large enterprise environment. This role is responsible for implementing cloud architecture standards, deploying scalable and secure infrastructure, and driving operational excellence through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps best practices.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with cloud architects, security teams, and application stakeholders to build highly available cloud solutions, establish governance standards, and enhance the organization's cloud adoption strategy. This position also participates in an on-call rotation supporting critical production environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cloud Infrastructure & Automation
  • Design, deploy, and manage Google Cloud Platform infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Integrate infrastructure provisioning into automated CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment consistency and operational efficiency.
  • Support cloud migration and application modernization projects by provisioning secure and scalable hosting environments.
  • Cloud Governance & Standards
  • Develop, document, maintain, and enforce cloud standards, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) governing the use of Google Cloud Platform IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services.
  • Promote cloud best practices and ensure alignment with enterprise governance, compliance, and operational requirements.
  • Networking & Platform Services
  • Configure and manage highly available VPC networks, Shared VPCs, hybrid connectivity, load balancing, and compute resources across enterprise workloads.
  • Support cloud networking, storage, content delivery, and platform administration services.
  • Security & Identity Management
  • Collaborate with Security Operations and governance teams to implement security controls through automated and reusable infrastructure templates.
  • Manage cloud identities, organizations, groups, roles, and access permissions in accordance with IAM and security standards.
  • Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and regulatory requirements within cloud environments.
  • Monitoring & Observability
  • Design and implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and reporting solutions to improve system visibility, reliability, and operational performance.
  • Continuously optimize platform observability and incident response capabilities.
  • Platform Innovation
  • Evaluate emerging Google Cloud Platform services and capabilities to identify opportunities for innovation, optimization, and enhanced cloud adoption.
  • Advocate for cloud technologies and provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Operational Support
  • Provide Tier-2 engineering support for production cloud environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues, serving as an escalation point for critical incidents.
  • Participate in a rotating 24x7x365 on-call support schedule to ensure service availability and rapid incident response.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure within Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience using Terraform or comparable automation tools.

Strong expertise in:
  • Compute, networking, storage, security, and identity services in Google Cloud Platform
  • Linux and Windows infrastructure administration
  • Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity planning
  • Infrastructure automation and configuration management
  • Container and cloud-native technologies
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise cloud deployments.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using:
  • Python
  • Bash
  • PowerShell
  • YAML
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to evolving cloud technologies and industry trends.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect certification.
  • Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer certification.
  • Experience with enterprise CI/CD platforms, including:
  • Azure DevOps
  • GitHub Actions
  • GitLab CI/CD
  • Similar automation platforms
  • Experience implementing cloud security, governance, and compliance frameworks in enterprise environments.
