Job description

Midwest Insulation is hiring a Project Engineer Intern to support our team. Are you a Construction Management student ready to jumpstart your career? Join our estimating team as a Project Engineer Intern and gain hands-on experience with projects ranging from renovations to large-scale commercial builds.
As a Project Engineer Intern, you will support our Preconstruction and Project Management Teams in preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates and executing a variety of projects. You’ll work closely with team members to understand project scopes, develop takeoffs, and help create bid packages, while also learning to carry out a variety of project management responsibilities.
This is a great opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in school and develop your skills in real-world construction estimation and project management.
This role will run for at least 10 weeks at 15 - 25 hours per week with potential for renewal.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Assist on projects of varying size and complexity
  • Review plans, specifications, and related documents
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and preliminary estimates
  • Help prepare bid packages and manage bid documentation
  • Support clear and complete handoffs of estimates to the sales and project management teams
  • Read and interpret architectural drawings
  • Input project data into Plan Swift and Excel
  • Compose and track RFIs
  • Assist in reviewing subcontractor proposals
  • Ensure timely and complete estimate submissions
  • Assist with project management tasks
Working Conditions:
  • Work Environment: Primarily office-based, with occasional site visits to active construction projects.
  • Schedule: Flexible hours during standard business days (Monday–Friday), with accommodations for academic schedules.
  • Location: This role is based at our Maryland Heights, MO location.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, work at a computer, and review both physical and digital construction documents.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Currently enrolled in a college/university program pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Science)
  • Strong interest in construction, preconstruction and/or estimating
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading and drafting
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Comfortable working both independently and within a team
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities
Preferred:
  • Experience or coursework using PlanSwift, Excel, Outlook and Adobe PDF
