How does a Detailer typically collaborate with other team members in an automotive service environment?

As a Detailer, you'll often work closely with service technicians, sales staff, and managers to ensure vehicles are presented in top condition. Communication is key, as you'll need to understand specific cleaning or aesthetic requests and coordinate your schedule with ongoing repairs or customer deliveries. While much of the work is hands-on and independent, successful Detailers are proactive in updating the team about vehicle status and any issues discovered during detailing, contributing to overall workflow efficiency and customer satisfaction.

What is a Detailer?

Detailers work in automotive dealerships, auto body shops, and car washes, providing a detailed cleaning of the interior and exterior of a vehicle. Car detailer duties consist of making an automobile look neat and clean, transporting customer vehicles from one place to another, working with cleaning equipment, and operating light machinery such as buffers and vacuums. Interior detailer responsibilities include vacuuming and washing upholstery, wiping down surfaces, and cleaning the dashboard and console. Exterior detailers wash and wax the car, clean windows, and dry the surface of the vehicle. Detailers may also be responsible for removing grease or dirt from the engine compartments.

What are the duties of a detailer?

A detailer is responsible for cleaning and restoring vehicles to a high standard, including washing, waxing, vacuuming, and polishing both the interior and exterior. They may also perform minor repairs, apply protective coatings, and use specialized tools and products to ensure vehicles look their best. Attention to detail and knowledge of cleaning techniques are essential for this role.

How much to tip on a $200 car detail?

For a car detail performed by a detailer, tipping 15-20% of the service cost is customary, so on a $200 detail, a tip of $30 to $40 is appropriate. Tipping reflects appreciation for thorough work and attention to detail, especially if the detailer provided exceptional service. Some customers may tip more for extra services or if the detailer went beyond expectations.

How much does a detailer earn?

A detailer typically earns between $10 and $20 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $20,000 to $40,000. Earnings can vary based on experience, location, and whether they work full-time or part-time, often with opportunities to increase income through tips or additional certifications.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Some high-paying roles for detailers or specialized automotive professionals can reach $2,000 per day, especially for those with extensive experience, certifications, or working on luxury or high-end vehicles. These positions often involve mobile services, luxury dealerships, or custom detailing projects and may require advanced skills, equipment, or a strong reputation in the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Detailer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Detailer, you need a solid understanding of cleaning techniques, surface materials, and vehicle care standards, often supported by experience or industry training. Familiarity with detailing tools, cleaning chemicals, polishers, and sometimes certification from organizations like the International Detailing Association is valuable. Attention to detail, time management, and strong customer service skills help a Detailer stand out. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality results, customer satisfaction, and the ability to maintain or restore vehicles to peak condition.

What does a Detailer do?

A Detailer is responsible for cleaning and restoring the interior and exterior of vehicles to a like-new condition. Their tasks typically include washing, waxing, vacuuming, polishing, and treating surfaces such as leather, plastic, and glass. About Us:

We are a premier automotive protection and detailing facility specializing in high-end paint correction, Paint Protection Film (PPF), and ceramic coatings. We pride ourselves on executing flawless work on some of the finest vehicles on the road. We are growing fast and urgently hiring a dedicated, detail-oriented Detailing Team Member & Shop Prep Technician to join our tight-knit team.

If you have a strong work ethic, a passion for cars, and want to learn the highest tier of the automotive preservation industry from the ground up, we want to hear from you.

Job Summary:

The Detailing Team Member / Shop Prep Technician is the backbone of our shop’s daily operations. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring every vehicle is flawlessly prepped for our advanced correction, PPF, and coating processes. You will handle everything from meticulous decontaminations and interior cleanings to helping with light vehicle disassembly, applying coatings, and keeping the shop environment pristine and organized.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attention to Detail: A sharp eye for missed spots, dust, and imperfections. You must care about the small things.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and possesses a valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required to safely move client vehicles).
  • Team Player: Positive attitude, eager to learn new skills, and capable of taking direction from senior PPF and coating installers.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Pay Rate: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour (starting pay based on experience and skillset)
  • Pay Frequency: Bi-weekly
  • Benefits Package: * Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance (available immediately following a standard 90-day probationary period)
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with company match
  • Paid training and massive opportunities for career growth into paint correction, high-end coating application, and PPF installation.

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday (occasional weekend availability depending on shop volume)
  • 7am to 330pm (30 min lunch)
