Job description

The role of the Engineering Technician II will assist with delivering critical, day-to-day operational, diagnostic, and troubleshooting support for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. This role requires technical expertise to troubleshoot SCADA server software and hardware.
The successful candidate ensures the continuous availability, security, and optimization of specialized client/server architectures, databases, and multi-platform operating systems.
This position will also work closely with operations, IT, project management teams, and SCADA network/security team members to maintain a secure and accurately working SCADA network.
What You'll Do:
  • System Maintenance: Provide daily operational support for core SCADA infrastructure and process control applications.
  • Server Management: Assists and executes hands-on administration of Windows and Linux servers, implementing industry's best practices.
  • Client/Server Applications: Assist with support, configuration, and maintenance of specialized SCADA client/server architecture and desktop applications.
  • Database Management: Assisting with overseeing and maintaining Oracle and other relational database systems supporting SCADA data pipelines.
  • Issue Resolution: Assist with investigation analyzing, and resolving complex hardware, software, and operating system errors.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Assist with diagnosing performance anomalies across servers, networks, and desktop applications to minimize downtime.
  • Hardware Lifecycle: Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting physical server hardware and core software components.
  • Security Controls: Assist with implementing and monitoring robust cybersecurity controls to protect critical infrastructure assets.
  • Cross-Team Alignment: Assist, partner closely with Operations, IT, and Project Management teams to deliver system enhancements.
  • Network Integrity: Collaborate with SCADA network and security specialists to maintain a resilient, secure network perimeter.
  • Operating Systems: Assist in implementing, managing, and maintaining Windows and Linux operating systems at the enterprise level.
  • Database Systems: Assist in administering Oracle or SQL database systems.
  • Configuration Management: Assist with operating enterprise-level configuration management tools for software deployment, image development, update management, and maintaining compliance.

Schedule 9/80: Monday through Friday /Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and ending times are no later than 6 pm.
Hybrid: Metropolitan's current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency, and two years of accredited college or university in engineering and four years of relevant experience, two years of which must have been at the Engineering Technician I level.
Relevant Experience is defined as: Industrial control systems; configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting/debugging of SCADA system infrastructure; system administration; security controls; or configuration and maintenance of Windows and Linux operating systems and desktop application software.
Please note: Proof of two years of accredited college or university in engineering related course work will need to be provided prior to interviews. Examples of college or university course work in Engineering include: Engineering, Engineering Technology, Science, Math, etc.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver's License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
