Job description

Drafter & Tool Designer

The Drafter & Tool Designer is responsible for operations within the drafting department, including modeling, tool designing, and drafting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the design and creation of tooling per customer requirements.
  • Create detailed tool design drawings for new products using "Lego" style design systems.
  • Integrate improved/new design and work holding tool technology.
  • Manage and/or maintain master files of sketch drafts to ensure accuracy.
  • Develops 3D models based on customer requirements as needed.
  • Participates in the improvement process by documenting process changes in sketches.
  • Participates in troubleshooting on production/design related problems.
  • Create Manufacturing plans for new products and processes.
  • Propose feasible solutions for future overall tool related process improvements.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and be proficient in use of CAD software

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities: Must be able to read customer provided drawings. Must be proficient in the use of MRP systems. Knowledgeable in various Manufacturing Processes. Knowledgeable in the Operation of portable measuring equipment.
