We are looking for an experienced, collaborative, and adaptable Senior User Experience Designer (individual contributor) to join the Creative Direction team within User Experience Design (UX). This role requires a designer who can independently lead their work, navigate ambiguity, and take ownership from problem definition through execution, while collaborating closely with cross-functional partners.

This role plays a critical part in shaping Schwab's digital experiences by driving design systems, brand expression, and experiencing modernization initiatives across web and mobile platforms. Success in this role requires a systems thinker who can influence across teams, help establish scalable design solutions, and identify opportunities to elevate the quality, consistency, and distinctiveness of Schwab's digital experiences.

As a Senior UX Designer, you are responsible for: UX Design Expertise & Execution
  • Drive the evolution of Schwab's digital experiences through design systems, experience standards, and creative direction
  • Partner with Experience Design, Product, Engineering, Brand, and Design System teams to create scalable solutions across web and mobile platforms
  • Design and influence interactions across desktop, mobile web, and native mobile experiences with a deep understanding of platform-specific patterns and conventions
  • Independently drive design exploration and decision-making, defining problems and proposing solutions that balance client needs, business goals, and technical considerations
  • Apply strong Product Design and User Interface Design skills to create intuitive, accessible, and visually refined experiences that meet client needs and business goals
  • Create future-state concepts and strategic design visions that help shape the long-term evolution of Schwab's digital ecosystem
  • Maintain high design standards aligned to channel guidelines and Schwab’s design system while identifying opportunities to modernize and evolve the experience
  • Consult with product teams and design partners to ensure experiences align with established design principles and contribute to a cohesive client experience
  • Own delivery of assigned work, proactively addressing challenges and proposing solutions
Design Systems, Brand Expression & Experience Modernization
  • Contribute to the evolution of Schwab’s Design System and broader digital experience standards
  • Help define how the Schwab brand is expressed across digital products and platforms
  • Translate brand strategy into scalable product experiences, interaction models, and visual frameworks
  • Use Brand Identity expertise to ensure digital experiences consistently reflect Schwab’s visual language, tone, and client experience principles across products and platforms
  • Establish and influence standards that create consistency while allowing Schwab experiences to feel distinctively Schwab
  • Monitor emerging industry trends, platform capabilities, and experience design innovations to identify opportunities for modernization
  • Explore future experience opportunities, including AI-enabled experiences, conversational interfaces, and emerging interaction models
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define scalable approaches for new experience paradigms while maintaining alignment with Schwab design principles

Required Qualifications:
  • 6-10 years of documented UX design experience focused on digital products or equivalent
  • 1+year(s) of UX experience for touch-based mobile interfaces
  • Experience with most aspects of a user-centered design process, including user research, developing user flows, creating wireframes, and building interactive prototypes for testing
  • Experience working within and contributing to design systems
  • Strong Product Design and User Interface Design skills, including layout, typography, hierarchy, color, motion, interaction patterns, usability, and accessibility considerations
  • Experience designing for both web and native mobile platforms
  • Ability to influence partners and stakeholders through compelling communication, storytelling, and design rationale
  • Demonstrated Brand Identity and Strategic Thinking capabilities, including the ability to translate brand strategy into scalable product experiences and connect design decisions to broader business and client outcomes
  • Proficiency in design tools like Figma
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience creating, scaling, or governing enterprise design systems
  • Experience translating brand strategy into digital product experiences
  • Familiarity with platform frameworks and standards, including iOS Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design
  • Experience using AI-powered tools or workflows to support design, research, or problem-solving, with an interest in applying emerging technologies thoughtfully in client experiences
  • Strong self-management skills and comfortowning work independently
  • Ability to clearly communicate design decisions to diverse audiences
  • Technical knowledge and collaboration skills working closely with engineers
