Role Purpose:

Our design team is expanding, and we're seeking a Senior Product Designer, Design System to join our innovative and collaborative group. We are passionate about UX design and excel at creating exceptional user experiences. If you are skilled at transforming research, principles, and design patterns into scalable solutions that teams love, you are the one we want. As a Product Designer, you will play a crucial role in shaping and evolving the Tangerine Design System, enabling consistent, accessible, and scalable experiences across our digital ecosystem. In support of Tangerine's vision to make experiences more human, honest, and effortless, your mission is to create and maintain design foundations, components, patterns, and guidelines that empower product teams to deliver exceptional client experiences efficiently and consistently at scale. This role is ideal for a designer who is passionate about systems thinking, accessibility, governance, and creating scalable foundations that improve the quality and efficiency of product delivery across the organization.

  • You will design based on business requirements and align the creative strategy and client experience across product, design, and development teams
  • You will conduct studies on usability, interaction, visual design, directional content, and information architecture
  • Your design decisions will be driven by principles, customer insights, data, and business acumen
  • Collaboration is second nature to you, whether it's working with business stakeholders, fellow designers, engineers, or functional teams
  • You will lead the evolution of the Tangerine Design System, ensuring it remains scalable, accessible, and aligned to business and client needs
  • You will define, maintain, and continuously improve design foundations, design tokens, components, patterns, and documentation that support multiple product teams
  • You will establish and contribute to design system governance, contribution models, and review frameworks to ensure consistency and quality across channels
  • You will partner closely with Engineering to drive design-to-code alignment and ensure component implementation is scalable across Web, iOS, and Android platforms
  • You will champion adoption of the Design System through reviews, documentation, education, and stakeholder engagement across the organization
  • You will ensure the Design System reflects and reinforces Tangerine's design principles and vision, helping teams create experiences that are more human, honest, and effortless
  • You will design with accessibility in mind from the outset, ensuring solutions work for everyone
  • You will proactively plan design activities, set expectations for timelines, and balance creativity with constraints
  • You will mentor fellow designers, share best practices, and help elevate the craft across the Tangerine Design Chapter
  • Your mission is to shape, influence, and nurture the Tangerine design community of practice

Skills You Need to Succeed:

  • You have a solid understanding of design thinking methodology and iterative design
  • You have completed a program in UX Design, HCI, or a related field
  • You possess 5+ years of experience in Product Design, UX Design, or a related discipline
  • Your talent lies in creating intuitive experiences that are both accessible and aesthetically stunning
  • Your portfolio demonstrates a strong balance of systems thinking, craft excellence, and business impact, including work that scales across products and platforms
  • Your toolbox includes Figma and Miro, and you excel at creating interactive prototypes, defining reusable components, and conducting usability studies to gather user insights
  • You also have a love for learning new tools and techniques
  • You have experience designing, maintaining, or contributing to a Design System, including components, design tokens, usage guidelines, and governance practices
  • You have a strong understanding of atomic design principles, component-based design, and scalable UX frameworks
  • You are familiar with standard UI frameworks, best practices, and guidelines for Web, iOS, and Android
  • You are comfortable partnering closely with engineers to ensure design system components are implemented accurately and maintained over time
  • Quality is your motto; you are a master of annotations and handoffs, and you are meticulous in design QA
  • You are skilled at balancing immediate product needs with long-term platform and system thinking
  • Your communication skills are top-notch, enabling you to influence stakeholders, facilitate alignment, and work smoothly with developers, product teams, and leadership
  • Experience in a financial institution, behavioral science, or a related field is an added bonus
  • Experience working with enterprise-scale Design Systems, accessibility standards (WCAG AA), and multi-platform ecosystems is considered a strong asset.
