Description and Functions Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Supports the visual communications program for the Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources by assisting with the design, production, and implementation of communications and marketing materials through desktop publishing, including conceptualization, design, composition, and editing. Facilitates desktop publishing, visual communications, and related marketing needs by conceptualizing, designing, composing, and editing marketing materials. Stays up to date with current design trends, techniques, and software tools, and continuously enhances skills to produce high-quality designs that align with established brand standards, communication objectives, and established visual systems and templates, as applicable

Supports the implementation of visual communication, marketing, and press activities for the department. Creates visually appealing and engaging designs that align with the agency's brand identity and messaging. Designs marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, social media graphics, and website visuals to effectively communicate key messages.

Contributes ideas for visual storytelling within established communications efforts. Assists with website updates, maintenance, and content entry to ensure accurate, accessible, and visually consistent digital platforms. Coordinates with appropriate staff to support timely and effective web content updates.

Enhances the visual presentation of agency websites through the use of graphics, photography, and video. Monitors departmental social media platforms and provides updates, content, and user support through coordinated communications efforts promoting department programs, events, and information. Monitors basic engagement indicators to inform routine content updates and platform maintenance, as appropriate.

Serves as a project coordinator for assigned communications and design projects, including organizing and prioritizing requests, managing multiple deadlines, and coordinating with external vendors or printing services. Performs work within established priorities, timelines, and workflows, and in coordination with Communications and Marketing leadership. Collaborates with team members, agency staff, and external partners to support consistent and effective informational and promotional materials.

Assists in maintaining clear and consistent messaging and visual presentation across department programs. Expands and maintains positive working relationships with media sources and vendors. Assists in providing accurate and visually appropriate materials and responds to inquiries as directed in support of department communications efforts.

Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in graphic design, multimedia design, communications, public relations, journalism, or a closely related field OR 4-6 years of progressive professional experience in a communications, marketing, or public information setting. Additional preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in graphic design and visual communications; developing materials for print and digital platforms; maintaining and updating website content using content management systems (CMS) or similar web platforms; and supporting social media content and public-facing communications. Preference may be given to candidates who attach a portfolio of work demonstrating relevant experience in graphic design, digital media, website content, and/or social media communications.

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of desktop publishing, graphic design, and visual communication principles, including relevant software applications. Skill in professional design, writing, and editing to support clear and effective public communication. Knowledge of print and digital media production methods, including opportunities, constraints, and associated costs.

Skill in photography, basic video production, website content updates, and publication design methods. Skill in interpersonal communication, both oral and written, and problem-solving in a collaborative environment. Ability to identify and address potential public-facing communication issues in coordination with leadership.

Knowledge of journalism practices, ethics, and applicable laws, including copyright, libel, privacy, freedom of information, and First Amendment considerations. Skill in coordinating communications and marketing materials across multiple programs and timelines. Knowledge of current issues and trends in outdoor recreation, arts, and cultural tourism.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Multi Media Design) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Multi Media Design) OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Multi Media Design) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in an office setting.
