About New York Edge

New York Edge (NYE) is the largest provider of school-based afterschool and summer

programming in New York City, serving over 33,000 students annually across all five boroughs

and Long Island. Our mission is to help young people discover their potential by providing

programs that support academic achievement, social-emotional development, and leadership

growth. Through deep partnerships with schools, communities, and city agencies, we deliver

high-quality experiences that address the needs of the whole child and build pathways to

Internship Overview

The Graphic Design Intern will support the Advancement & Communications Department, working closely with the marketing and creative team to develop visually compelling assets that strengthen New York Edge’s brand and storytelling.

This internship is ideal for a student interested in visual communication, brand identity, and nonprofit marketing. The intern will gain hands-on experience in creative production, brand management and marketing design while contributing meaningfully to New York Edge’s mission to bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities.

Location: Woodside, Queens (Hybrid)
Duration: Summer 2026 (8-10 weeks, flexible)
Hours: 20-25 hours/week
Compensation: $20/hour

Key Responsibilities
  • Visual Identity & Branding: Assist in maintaining a cohesive visual identity across digital and print platforms, ensuring consistent logo usage and brand standards.

  • Design Production: Create engaging 2D design assets using strong layout, color, and typography fundamentals; support light 3D or dimensional design projects as needed.

  • Digital Media: Design graphics, illustrations, and digital assets for social media, website, and email campaigns.

  • Print & Layout Design: Develop professional layouts for brochures, flyers, annual reports, and other marketing materials, preparing files for print production.

  • Merchandise & Promotional Materials: Assist with the design of branded merchandise, packaging, and promotional materials for events and fundraising campaigns.

  • Marketing & Campaign Support: Conceptualize and produce marketing materials including posters, signage, educational materials, advertisements, and campaign collateral as needed.

  • Other projects as needed.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student

  • Prior design experience through coursework, internships, freelance work, or personal projects; portfolio or sample work preferred

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign; Canva experience a plus)

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Interest in nonprofit communications, marketing, or social impact design
