SUMMARY: A Design Engineer at Cummins will be responsible for the design, release, and testing of Compressed Natural Gas systems. Key tasks include integration of components, ensuring proper fitment, FEA analysis and compliance with industry standards and regulations will be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Other duties beyond this representative listing may be assigned to the essential job duties and responsibilities of this position based on Company needs.   

  • Design and implement new systems and updates to existing systems
  • Create and verify 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and FEA tools 
  • Lead design reviews with cross functional partners and drive design for manufacturing/assembly and make vs buy decisions.
  • Liaise with procurement, production, suppliers, and customers with guidance from Senior Engineer or Chief Engineer.  
  • Update existing systems to reduce component costs, reduce manufacturing costs and time, reduce warranty costs, or meet new customer requirements.
  • Support prototype builds for verification of manufacturing, assembly and test processes. 
  • Participate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Create ECR’s (Engineering change requests) and communicate with appropriate departments
  • Maintain safe work environment.
  • Maintain professional appearance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and/or Experience:  

This position requires:

  • 4-year engineering degree from an accredited college preferably in Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related discipline, or related experience.
  • Must possess 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design or related experience.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: 

  • Must obtain and maintain the applicable employee license with the Texas Railroad Commission; must pass test within 90 days of hire.  
  • Must possess a current and valid driver license with a driving record that meets the insurability guidelines set forth by the company’s insurance carrier.

Language Skills:  

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.   
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. 

Mathematical Skills:  

An understanding of mathematical operations including advanced statistics.  Good understanding of engineering principles is required. 

Reasoning Ability:  

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.    

Other Skills and Abilities:   

Knowledge of CAD software is a requirement.  Knowledge of FEA software is a plus.  Must be willing to travel on a limited basis.
