Designer Engineer
Mechanical/Ordinance Systems
On-site in Chandler, AZ
Target salary range: $66,900 - $124,300
We are hiring a Design Engineer to support the design, development, production, improvement, and sustainment of mechanical and ordnance systems for mission-critical products supporting the U.S. warfighter. This role supports the full engineering product lifecycle and requires experience with 3D CAD, SolidWorks, GD&T, engineering drawings, manufacturing support, root cause analysis, configuration management, and aerospace or defense engineering environments.
The Design Engineer will work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Test, Program Management, and other engineering disciplines to develop and sustain ordnance product designs, resolve production issues, support qualification and testing, and drive continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop, sustain, and improve mechanical designs for ordnance products from concept through production and sustainment.
  • Perform engineering analyses and develop supporting technical and engineering documentation.
  • Support prototype development, qualification testing, production, and product sustainment activities.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to Manufacturing and Quality teams.
  • Lead root cause and failure investigations, implement corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create, interpret, and maintain engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and product design configuration records.
  • Apply GD&T principles to mechanical designs and engineering drawings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) across engineering, manufacturing, quality, test, and program functions.
  • Support technical evaluations and proposal development activities as required.

Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; Aerospace Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline may be considered.
  • Typically 3+ years of relevant mechanical and/or ordnance design engineering experience; candidates with less experience and demonstrated technical aptitude may also be considered.
  • Experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks; equivalent CAD platforms are acceptable.
  • Ability to support engineering activities in a cross-functional manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Aerospace or defense industry experience.
  • Manufacturing engineering or production support experience.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE), Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), failure analysis, or engineering simulation.
  • Experience with ANSYS or SolidWorks CAE simulation tools.
  • Experience with configuration management or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, preferably Oracle Agile PLM.
  • Machine shop, machining, or fabrication experience.
