Job description

Position SummaryThe Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and documentation of motorhome systems and components, from concept through production release. This role owns engineering drawings, 3D models, and bills of material for new and revised designs, and works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Service to ensure designs are manufacturable, compliant, and reliable. The Design Engineer drives design improvements based on field performance, warranty trends, and production feedback, and serves as the technical authority on assigned systems throughout the product lifecycle.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:Design new components, assemblies, and systems using 3D CAD (Creo) in accordance with engineering standards and RVIA requirementsCreate and maintain detailed engineering drawings, models, and bills of material (BOM) for production useGenerate and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Change Notices, ensuring proper revision control and documentationApply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles to reduce production cost, installation time, and reworkDevelop and evaluate prototypes; conduct design verification and validation testingPerform root cause analysis on field returns, warranty claims, and production quality issues, and implement corrective design actionsCollaborate with Production and Service technicians to resolve build and installation issues tied to design intentSupport supplier selection and evaluation for new components, including reviewing supplier drawings and specificationsEnsure designs comply with applicable RVIA, DOT, FMVSS, and other regulatory standardsMaintain and organize engineering documentation, drawing archives, and CAD dataPartner with Purchasing on part sourcing, cost targets, and lead-time considerations during designOther duties as neededMinimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered2+ years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical design, preferably in RV, automotive, or heavy-vehicle manufacturingProficiency with 3D CAD software; Creo experience strongly preferredWorking knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and engineering drawing standards (ASME Y14.5)Solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems as applied to motorhome designExperience with bill of materials (BOM) structuring and revision/change control processesAbility to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specificationsStrong root cause analysis and problem-solving skillsEffective cross-functional communication with Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Service teamsOther Preferred SkillsFamiliarity with RVIA and FMVSS standards for motorhome/RV constructionExperience with PLM or document control systemsKnowledge of composite, fiberglass, or aluminum body construction methodsExposure to FEA or other simulation/analysis toolsProject management and prototype build coordination experienceCritical ThinkingProfessional CommunicationSelf-MotivatedTime ManagementTeamworkPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
