Why This Role Matters

Working under the direction of a Senior Engineer, the CFD Design Engineer supports AHA’s team by developing complex CFD simulations to validate data center design and performance both inside the data halls and for external cooling equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop complex CFD models based on latest building layout from Revit or other software
  • Make calculations using engineering formulas such as heating and cooling loads and equipment sizing
  • Consulting with Lead Engineer, prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems
  • Research equipment selection from catalogs, under direction of Lead Engineer
  • Handle multiple projects with efficiency and accuracy
  • Receive and follow through with specific or technical instructions
  • Participating in and contributing to a team effort, exchanging ideas and recommending improvements
  • Attend client meetings, as necessary
  • Visit sites to perform inspections, as required (<5% Travel)


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (BSME, BSMET, or equivalent) or equivalent technical training/certification
  • 0 – 5 years’ experience at MEP firm with fundamental knowledge of mechanical system design
  • Understanding and knowledge of applicable codes
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical concepts
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings
  • High degree of analytical skill and ability
  • Possess general understanding of applicable building codes, consults with engineer regarding building code requirements
  • Knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems concepts and design
  • Proficiency in Revit / AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with industry software such as Trane Trace, Carrier HAP and other HVAC modeling tools


Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to seven years’ experience in engineering environment or equivalent field of operation
  • Engineer-in-training (EIT) or ability to obtain
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Office Teams
  • Data Center Mechanical Design experience
  • Experience with Cadence Reality DC Design (formerly 6Sigma) greatly preferred; the following are also useful:
  • Ansys Fluent
  • Star CCM+
  • TileFlow
  • PIPE-FLO
  • Other building CFD software
