What You'll Do
As the Drafting and Design Department Head, you'll provide leadership for the department while creating an engaging, student-centered learning environment that supports academic excellence and workforce development.
Leadership & Program Management
- Provide leadership and direction for the daily operations of the Drafting and Design department.
- Develop and implement strategic goals that support program growth, innovation, and student success.
- Mentor, support, and evaluate faculty and staff.
- Coordinate class schedules, staffing assignments, and departmental resources.
- Manage departmental budgets, equipment, facilities, and instructional resources.
- Ensure compliance with college policies, accreditation standards, and safety requirements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen program quality and student outcomes.
Teaching & Student Success
- Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction aligned with approved curriculum.
- Teach drafting and design concepts using current industry software and technology.
- Monitor student progress and provide academic advising, coaching, and support.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional learning environment.
- Promote student retention, completion, certification, and employment success.
- Ensure students develop the technical, professional, and problem-solving skills needed for today's workforce.
Curriculum & Industry Engagement
- Collaborate with faculty to develop, evaluate, and enhance curriculum.
- Maintain strong relationships with local employers, advisory committee members, and industry professionals.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, software, design practices, and workforce trends.
- Identify opportunities for internships, partnerships, community projects, and industry engagement.
- Recommend curriculum improvements that align with workforce demands and technological advances.
Communication & Collaboration
- Build positive relationships with students, faculty, administration, employers, and community partners.
- Participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives.
- Represent the college at industry events, advisory committee meetings, and community functions.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, budgets, inventories, and program documentation.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is an experienced drafting and design professional who is passionate about leadership, education, and preparing students for rewarding careers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience in drafting, CAD, engineering technology, architecture, manufacturing, or a closely related field.
- Leadership or supervisory experience in education, industry, or both.
- Teaching, training, mentoring, or coaching experience.
- Strong knowledge of current drafting and design software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Revit, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar industry applications.
- Experience developing curriculum, instructional materials, or workforce training programs.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to build partnerships with industry, employers, advisory committees, and community organizations.
- Commitment to fostering a collaborative, professional, and student-focused culture.
- Passion for helping students develop the technical, creative, and professional skills needed for career success.

Requirements
Highly proficient in Revit, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
