Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and deliver high-quality mechanical systems and components. The role focuses on designing HVAC and building services, producing detailed drawings and models, performing calculations, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure projects meet performance, cost, schedule, and code requirements. The ideal candidate is proficient with AutoCAD and Revit, experienced in mechanical design principles, and comfortable working from concept through fabrication and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed mechanical designs and drawings for HVAC systems, piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Prepare calculations, load estimates, equipment selections, and sizing for HVAC and mechanical systems in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Create and maintain 3D models, fabrication drawings, and construction documents that support procurement and installation.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, contractors, and clients to coordinate interfaces and resolve design issues.
- Perform design reviews, value engineering, and constructability assessments to optimize system performance and reduce cost.
- Support project planning by estimating effort, preparing deliverables, and meeting project milestones and schedules.
- Provide technical support during tendering, construction, commissioning, and handover, including site visits and troubleshooting.
- Maintain documentation of design decisions, calculations, revision control, and as-built records.
- Mentor junior engineers and draftspeople, review their work, and promote best practices in mechanical design.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design, preferably focused on HVAC and building services.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit for creating detailed drawings and BIM models.
- Strong understanding of HVAC principles, thermal load calculations, duct and piping design, and equipment selection.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA, local building codes) and experience producing compliant designs.
- Skilled in engineering problem solving, mathematical calculations, and applying design standards to practical solutions.
- Experience with project documentation, version control, and coordination across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to clients and stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Professional registration (PE or equivalent) or willingness to pursue certification is a plus.
