Mechanical Project Manager (Plumbing & Mechanical)

Location: Latham, NY (Albany Area)
Salary: $120,000 - $170,000 (Experience Dependent)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role is responsible for managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client relationships while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate has experience with mechanical, plumbing, and/or process piping systems and is comfortable managing projects ranging from large institutional builds to complex design-build installations. This individual will play a key role in ensuring projects meet performance expectations while supporting a strong reputation for quality, safety, and technical execution.

Our client is a well-established mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC, plumbing, and process piping systems with capabilities in design-build delivery, prefabrication, and 24/7 service support. The company serves commercial, healthcare, education, and industrial clients across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial and industrial mechanical projects from preconstruction through completion
  • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and clients
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, and cost controls
  • Oversee installation of HVAC systems, hydronic piping, plumbing, and mechanical equipment
  • Review project drawings and specifications to ensure scope accuracy and constructability
  • Adapt to evolving project conditions, schedules, and design changes
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, safety programs, and project requirements
  • Track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Manage procurement of major equipment including boilers, chillers, air handling units, and pumps
  • Monitor project progress, installation quality, and system performance
  • Lead project meetings and provide regular updates to stakeholders
  • Support commissioning, startup, and project closeout activities
  • Maintain strong client relationships across commercial and industrial sectors

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical project management (HVAC, plumbing, or piping)
  • Experience managing commercial or industrial construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronic systems, and mechanical piping
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and mechanical specifications
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of safety requirements and OSHA compliance
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Experience with design-build project delivery
  • Familiarity with prefabrication or BIM coordination
  • Experience working in union labor environments
  • Background in healthcare, education, or industrial construction projects
