Job Description

AECOM’s Water Division is actively seeking a motivated and collaborative Water Design-Build Project Manager to support the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects with a focus in the southeastern United States. This senior role offers the opportunity to work within an integrated design-build environment, contributing to the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and conveyance systems. The Project Manager will partner closely with engineering, construction, and procurement teams to help deliver high-quality projects that address some of the nation’s most critical water infrastructure needs while advancing AECOM’s leadership in the water market.

This position is well suited for a project manager who thrives in a team-oriented environment, is eager to grow design-build expertise, and enjoys balancing technical, commercial, and delivery responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and manage the delivery of design-build water and wastewater projects from early planning through construction completion.
  • Coordinate and oversee multi-discipline design teams across AECOM’s design centers to ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Assist with procurement of process equipment and subcontractors, including participation in bid evaluations and subcontract negotiations.
  • Contribute to project scheduling, cost control, and forecasting activities, including job cost reporting and estimates at completion (EAC).
  • Participate in constructability reviews, value engineering efforts, and risk management discussions.
  • Support design-build pursuits by contributing to proposal development, pricing strategies, and technical approaches.
  • Collaborate closely with construction teams during execution to support field coordination, issue resolution, and client communications.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to promote successful project outcomes.
  • Travel to project sites and other AECOM offices as needed to support project delivery.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Sanitary, Chemical Engineering, Construction Management or a related field and 8+ years of relevant experience delivering water or wastewater projects using design-build methods or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid driver’s license that allows you to drive during the course of your employment; subject to motor vehicle records review.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting progressive design-build, lump sum design-build, or CMAR project delivery approaches.
  • Desire to participate in organizations such as the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) or Water Collaborative Delivery Association (WCDA).
  • Strong understanding of project delivery fundamentals with the ability to facilitate technical and commercial discussions.
  • Proven ability to manage and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
  • Experience with project cost controls, earned value analysis, and budget forecasting.
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness, including subcontract management and construction contract fundamentals.
  • Experience managing projects in the $10M+ range.
  • DBIA certification preferred but not required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience working with local and state regulatory agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients and project partners.

Additional Information
  • Short-term travel is expected and generally up to 5-10%, depending on project workload.
