This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.

We are looking for someone to apply their hardware design technical expertise, natural leadership, organizational skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact the bold missions at Blue Origin. As an Avionics PCB Librarian within this Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE) PCB design team, you will apply your understanding of digital, analog, mixed-signal, high-speed, RF and high-power PCB design and components to develop and maintain our company-wide eCAD parts library.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain corporate eCAD component libraries, including part footprints, schematic symbols and related component information
  • Design and layout common circuit blocks to support high-performance, high-reliability PCBs development for aerospace applications
  • Work with Altium Designer to create detailed PCB layout design files from schematics (Gerbers and FAB & ASY drawings, and other relevant documentation)
  • Ensure design and manufacturing practices adhere to industry standards and regulations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PCB design and layout issues
  • Contribute to PCB/PCBA design reviews by providing design artifacts, DFM/DFA/DFT assessments and similar value-added info
  • Collaborate in defining PCB development process improvements (procedures and checklists)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of mechanical, electrical, firmware and software engineers to ensure design requirements are met
  • Check the quality of work of other layout resources, including internal and external resources
  • Support and mentor internal layout resources (junior engineers and technicians) on PCB design (library and layout) best practices

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience creating and maintaining PCB part libraries (schematic symbols & footprints)
  • Adjacent experience in PCB layout and design, specifically in the aerospace and defense industry
  • Expert proficiency using Altium Designer Pro/365/Enterprise for PCB design (library and layout)
  • Experienced use of PCB best practices for design, manufacturing, assembly and testing (including IPC-6012 Class 3 standards and IPC-7352)
  • Experience with implementing PCB(A) design constraint management; including trace length matching, spacing rules, etc.
  • Experience in designing High-Density Interconnect (HDI) boards with fine pitch BGA (FPGAs, processors, microcontrollers, and other ASICs); including thru-hole and microvias, blind-buried vias, etc.
  • Experience with High-Speed, High-Power and High-Density Interconnect board design and layout; including signal integrity constraints, impedance-controlled nets and stack-up.
  • Experience routing multi-rail power delivery solutions, and high-power thermal management and other mechanical constraints.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced and high-pressure environments, earn trust, and maintain positive and professional relationships; demonstrate attention to detail, strong task ownership and excellent communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced certification in PCB design, Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in PCB Design or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
  • Certifications such as: CID (Certified Interconnect Designer), CIS (Certified IPC Specialists) and CSE (Certified Standards Expert)
  • Familiarity with PCB DFM/DFA/DFT/DFC (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Test and Cost) using tools such as Siemens Valor
  • Familiarity with High-Speed and High-Power board design practices (signal and power integrity) using tools such as Siemens HyperLynx
  • Proficiency with Git Revision Control, AWS GovCloud tool environments, and scripting languages such as Python, Perl, DelphiScript, etc to support tool integration and automation; exposure to AI tools that support PCB library and design automation (Quilter, Darcy, or similar tools)
