Job description

Illinois Green Alliance is seeking Marketing & Design Associate to support the organization's communications, marketing, and storytelling efforts to strengthen brand visibility, engage stakeholders, and advance a healthier, more sustainable built environment.
This role is responsible for creating compelling written and visual content across digital and print platforms, supporting events and campaigns, and working with the entire Illinois Green team to maintain a consistent organizational voice and identity. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, highly organized, collaborative, and excited to contribute to a mission-driven organization focused on climate action and innovation in the building industry.
The Marketing & Design Associate reports to the Communications Manager and will play an important role in helping Illinois Green Alliance foster an inclusive and supportive community of building professionals, advocates, policymakers, and partners working toward a more sustainable future.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support storytelling efforts by highlighting our programs, events, partners, and impact in various visual content formats.
  • Create graphics and visual assets for social media, presentations, reports, event materials, and marketing campaigns.
  • Design, draft and edit communications materials including newsletters, email campaigns, event marketing, blog posts, annual reports, and organizational updates.
  • Lead the team in coordinating website design content and digital resources.
  • Lead the editing and post-production work on a bi-weekly podcast focused sustainable building practices.
  • Contribute to, organize and maintain digital assets and visual content.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop visually engaging materials that communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Collaborate with staff to effectively market our events and the organization initiatives to our growing community of industry stakeholders and partners.
  • Support tracking of communications metrics and engagement analytics to improve outreach strategies.
  • Support photography, video, and multimedia content development when needed.

Qualifications
  • 1 - 3 years of experience managing social media platforms and creating digital content.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or related work.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in website design, UX, and management including building and maintaining HTML code.
  • Experience with email marketing tools and website management platforms such as Neon and Duda.
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Passion for mission-driven work and collaborative team environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic photography, video editing, or multimedia production skills.
  • Interest working in nonprofit, sustainability, advocacy, or community-focused organizations.
  • Interest in green buildings, clean energy, climate policy, or environmental education.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, graphic design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
