What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Design Associate, you need a solid understanding of design principles, proficiency in graphic design, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Design Associates often juggle several projects at once, which can make managing deadlines and shifting priorities a challenge. Effective communication with team members and clear organization of tasks are essential to ensure all projects move forward smoothly. What could be more exciting than putting your mark on some of the world’s most famous and well-loved fashion brands? As a designer for Centric Brands, you’ll use your skills and creativity to create designs based on style plans, sales needs and emerging trends. You will also ensure that your work can be transformed into a finished product in a timely manner and at an appropriate price point. This means working not only with our technical design and production teams, but also building collaborative relationships with outside vendors and other external stakeholders. The challenges are exciting and the possibilities endless – as you contribute your skills in a vibrant, customer- and people-centric culture that celebrates you as a valuable member of the team.

The Associate, Designer (Design Ops) will work closely with the Sr. Product Development Manager and serve as a partner to the Creative team supporting all technical aspects of the design process including PLM packages and pre-production design work.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Design and Cross-functional development teams to create detailed PLM Tech packs for all product categories
  • Attend style review meetings with the design team to understand vision / concepts and product details prior to initiating the tech pack process
  • Generate Bill of Material (BOM) pages comprised of all garment components: fabrics, trims, embellishments, labels and packaging
  • Create and modify Illustrator manufacturing and detail pages for new silhouettes
  • Build manufacturing worksheets to communicate proper stitching and seaming specifications using the ISO 4915 stitch matrix
  • Collaborate with the Production Artists to ensure all aspects of the PLM techpacks are aligned prior to hand off
  • Attend salesman sample meetings to review seasonal product
  • Modify and update PLM information as needed throughout the development / production process
  • Support project management activities by participating in project handoffs, logging and tracking work within management charts, and maintaining accurate project status updates throughout the development process
  • Participate in creating manuals to standardize Design Ops development processes

  • Understanding of the product development process, including key milestones from concept through production
  • Knowledge of garment construction, sewing techniques, seam types and basic fit principles
  • Technical knowledge of fabric qualities, constructions and finishes for all product categories
  • Proficiency in Adobe suite- specifically Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Working knowledge of FlexPLM or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
  • Understanding of children's product safety requirements and compliance standards
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to identify issues and propose practical solutions
  • Ability to work in a fast pace, high performance environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and accountability
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Design or related field
  • 2-4 years of relevant design experience

In return, we provide an industry-competitive salary, along with a comprehensive benefits plan (medical, dental, vision) that includes a matching 401(k), Summer Fridays, generous PTO, merchandise discounts, excellent career development opportunities, and a work environment that reflects our industry leadership. Our social impact program, Centric Cares, focuses on volunteerism to make a difference in communities we live and work in and our D&I committee is shaping the future of diversity, equity and inclusion at Centric Brands though workshops, resources and inspiring conversation.

Salary Range: $66,300 - $70,000
