What is a design and development engineer?

Design and Development Engineers are professionals who create, test, and refine products or systems, often working in fields like manufacturing, electronics, or automotive engineering. They use technical knowledge and creativity to design new products or improve existing ones, ensuring they are functional, cost-effective, and meet safety standards. Their roles often involve collaborating with other engineers, using computer-aided design (CAD) software, and overseeing the development process from concept to production. These engineers play a crucial role in turning ideas into real-world solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design and development engineer?

Job description

Development Design & Construction Manager | The Stellar Family of Companies
Lubbock, Texas
Build more than buildings - build a career that matters.
The Stellar Family of Companies is a privately held, real estate investment firm specializing in multifamily development, construction, asset management, and property management across Texas. We're growing, and we're looking for a Development Design & Construction Manager to serve as our owner's representative and drive our active developments from entitlement through turnover.
If you thrive on ownership, love the details of budgets and schedules, and want to be part of a purpose-driven team that invests in people as much as in property, we want to hear from you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead entitlement, permitting, and city approval processes from concept to completion
  • Manage design from concept through construction documents, keeping cost and constructability aligned
  • Oversee architects, engineers, GCs, and consultants - resolving conflicts and keeping deliverables on track
  • Run monthly OAC meetings; review RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay applications
  • Conduct site inspections and QA/QC reviews to keep quality on point
  • Build and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and draw schedules alongside our accounting team
  • Prepare monthly lender draw requests and leadership reporting
  • Guide projects through close-out and a smooth handoff to property and asset management

WHAT YOU BRING
  • 5+ years in real estate development, construction management, or design management
  • Strong grasp of building systems, construction methods, and design processes
  • Sharp budgeting, scheduling, and financial reporting skills
  • Confidence working with city officials, GCs, and lenders
  • Proficiency in Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, or similar tools
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field

WHY STELLAR
  • Competitive base salary based on experience and market
  • Performance-based bonus tied to project milestones (closing, CO, stabilization)
  • Competitive benefits package and PTO
  • A lean, entrepreneurial team where your work visibly shapes real communities across Texas
