Job description

Deputy Director
Full-Time โ€ข South Los Angeles, CA
Salary: $85,000-$100,000 | Reports to: Executive Director
About CADRE
Community Asset Development Re-defining Education (CADRE) is an independent, community-based, parent membership organization in South Los Angeles founded in 2001. CADRE is led by African American and Latino parents and caregivers whose children attend local schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). We work for systemic change by supporting grassroots South LA parents as leaders in stopping the pushout crisis in schools serving low-income neighborhoods of color.
Our mission is to solidify and advance parent leadership to ensure that all children are rightfully educated regardless of where they live. Through parent capacity building, political education, advocacy, and organizing, CADRE challenges schools' beliefs and practices that criminalize children and parents and violate their human rights to a quality education, dignity, and participation in our public education system. We build power to win new policies and challenge existing ones as part of a movement toward educational and racial justice.
The Role
The Deputy Director is a senior leadership role responsible for strengthening CADRE's internal alignment, organizational effectiveness, and execution of its mission and multi-year strategic plan. Reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED), the Deputy Director serves as a strategic partner and internal leader, ensuring that organizational strategy is translated into effective systems, programs, and people-centered practices. This role supports continuity of leadership, staff development, and cross-team coordination while centering care, accountability, and equity-rooted in CADRE's commitment to educational and racial justice.

  • Design and maintain internal evaluation and outcome measurement systems to assess organizational impact, strengths, challenges, and planning priorities
  • Prepare internal reports, dashboards, and updates for leadership and Board use
  • Track benchmarks and support staff in developing work plans aligned to strategic goals

Organizational Development & Operations
  • Refine and develop organizational structures, systems, and processes to support CADRE's growth
  • Strengthen coordination across programs, operations, and organizing team
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director on strategy, systems, and organizational development
  • Step in to support executive leadership functions as needed to ensure continuity

Personnel & Human Resources
  • Review and refine internal HR practices to ensure continued alignment with fiscal sponsor policies and applicable employment law
  • Review, refine, and develop staff job descriptions as needed to effectively support the evolving organizational structure
  • Develop and maintain staff recruitment and selection processes and timelines
  • Design and implement staff orientation, core training, and onboarding systems
  • Design and oversee staff evaluation, ongoing support, and professional development mechanisms
  • Develop supervision guidelines and support supervisory staff in building their management capacity
  • Support collection of best practices in workplace conflict resolution and restorative approaches

Communications & Community Presence
  • Support development of organizational communications including newsletters, promotional materials, and digital content
  • Develop and maintain production schedules and distribution plans to maximize community awareness of CADRE
  • Maintain visibility with staff, partners, and community as a representative of CADRE's leadership

Fundraising & Resource Development
  • Support grant reporting and funder communication as needed
  • Identify opportunities to expand organizational partnerships and resource base
