Job description

About CruxOCM
CruxOCM is THE go-to automation company for heavy industry. We're backed by venture capital and are shakingย things up in the energy sector.

Control room operators deserve the best tools to do their jobs safely and efficiently. And let's not forget about.minimizing environmental impact and maximizing revenue! If pilots have autopilot software, why can't controlroom operators have something similar?
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Forward Deployed Engineer to join our team. This role serves as the technicalย bridge between our customers and product teams, ensuring our software delivers value within complexย operational technology (OT) environments.

Leverage field commissioning expertise to drive core engineering decisions. You will work with customers to design custom integrations and complex workflow logic beyond standard playbooks, continuously returning operational feedback to the product team to accelerate scaling.

We are looking for someone interested in applying their commissioning knowledge in new ways: combining provenย field techniques with software, data, and adjacent technologies to deliver industry-changing products in a fast-growing technology start-up.

Reporting to the Forward Deployment Engineering Manager, the Forward Deployed Engineer will collaborate with product, engineering, and sales to align on the customer's real operational problem, the product roadmap, and the deployment strategy. This role is a unique opportunity to blend deep technical ownership with customer-facing judgment - owning the outcome in the field and helping turn that outcome into product.
ย
Job Responsibilities
Work closely with internal teams and customers to deploy, integrate, and operate our software in live
process control environments until it is in production use
Write, configure, and ship the integrations, data flows, and state machine logic required to make the
product work against site-specific systems, constraints, and operating practices
Commission, test, and validate solutions in customer environments; diagnose issues at the software, data,ย and control-system boundary and drive them to resolution
Own technical outcomes for the, not just the go-live phase, and feed field learnings, reusable connectors,ย and product gaps back to engineering and product
Coordinate third-party commissioning and installation personnel where needed, while remaining
accountable for the technical result
Work with operators and stakeholders to define success, demonstrate operational value, and captureย evidence of adoption and customer outcomes
Apply knowledge of pipeline operations, hydraulic modeling/simulation, and management of change to scope and build solutions that fit real operating processes
Apply Windows server setup and configuration, OPC server setup and configuration, and HMI design in SCADA environments as part of building and commissioning working systems
Travel nationally and internationally up to 10%
ย
Requirements + Soft Skills

Bachelor's degree or Technology Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Extensive experience deploying and supporting complex software in mission-critical environments
Scripting or programming experience (Python, PowerShell, or similar)
Working knowledge of Windows Server and network administration
Familiarity with SQL, relational databases, and time series databases
The ability to translate operational feedback into concrete changes in software logic
Experience writing specification documents and technical reports
Prior experience or knowledge of the following is considered an asset:
Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot)
Understanding of industrial communication protocols: OPC-UA, OPC-DA, MQTT, Modbus, or similar
Hands-on SCADA experience (e.g. AVEVA Enterprise SCADA, Inductive Automation Ignition)
Pipeline operations knowledge (e.g. hydraulics, control logic)
Experience with hydraulic modelling / simulators e.g. DNV Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS)
ย
Soft Skills
Autonomous Drive & Initiative: Self-motivated, adaptable, and focused on continuous improvement withย minimal supervision
Time Management & Reliability: Strong ability to prioritize tasks, make sound decisions, and consistentlyย meet deadlines
Clear Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the
ability to review team members' work and provide constructive feedback
Analytical Problem-Solving: Sharp troubleshooting capabilities paired with responsible, detail-oriented work habits
What we Offer

Competitive compensation package, including equity
Comprehensive health benefits
Remote-first work environment
Flexible work arrangements
Professional development opportunities
Growth-mindset culture
A diverse and inclusive environment

CruxOCM is an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusiveย environment for all employees. We are happy to accommodate any accessibility needs you may have.ย Ready to take your career to the next level? Join us and help shape the future of the energy sector!
