How much do dental outreach program jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 11, 2026, the average hourly pay for dental outreach program in the United States is $25.78, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.27 and $34.13 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the typical responsibilities of a professional working in a Dental Outreach Program?

Professionals in a Dental Outreach Program typically spend their days providing preventive and basic dental care in community settings such as schools, clinics, or mobile dental units. Responsibilities often include conducting oral health screenings, educating the public about proper dental hygiene, and coordinating with local health organizations to serve underserved populations. Collaboration with dentists, dental hygienists, and community health workers is common to ensure comprehensive care. The role can also involve organizing events, collecting data for program evaluation, and advocating for improved access to dental services.

Do you need a degree to be a dental treatment coordinator?

A degree is not typically required to become a dental treatment coordinator, but relevant experience, knowledge of dental procedures, and strong communication skills are important. Many employers prefer candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent, and some may offer on-the-job training or certification programs to enhance qualifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Dental Outreach Program coordinator role, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dental Outreach Program coordinator, you need a background in dental hygiene or public health, strong organizational skills, and experience in community health initiatives. Familiarity with dental software, scheduling systems, and, in some cases, certification in dental assisting or public health is beneficial. Excellent communication, cultural sensitivity, and leadership skills help in engaging diverse communities and managing collaborative teams. These competencies are crucial for effectively delivering dental care and education to underserved populations and ensuring smooth program operations.

What is a Dental Outreach Program?

A Dental Outreach Program is a community-based initiative that provides dental care and education to underserved populations. These programs often involve dental professionals and volunteers traveling to schools, rural areas, or community centers to offer services such as oral health screenings, preventive care, and basic treatments. The goal is to improve oral health awareness, provide access to necessary dental services, and reduce barriers to care for individuals who may not otherwise have regular access to a dentist.

What else can you do with a dentistry degree?

A dentistry degree can lead to careers beyond clinical practice, such as dental research, public health, dental education, or healthcare administration. Graduates can also work in dental product development, forensic dentistry, or pursue specialties like orthodontics or periodontics, often requiring additional training or certification.

What is the difference between Dental Outreach Program vs Dental Hygienist?

AspectDental Outreach ProgramDental Hygienist
CredentialsVaries; often includes community health trainingLicensed dental hygiene license and certification
Work EnvironmentCommunity settings, mobile clinics, outreach eventsDental offices, clinics, healthcare facilities
Employer & IndustryNonprofits, public health agencies, community organizationsDental practices, clinics, hospitals

The Dental Outreach Program involves organizing and implementing community-based dental health initiatives, often with volunteers or public health staff. In contrast, a Dental Hygienist provides direct patient care within dental offices, focusing on cleaning, exams, and patient education. While both roles promote oral health, the Outreach Program emphasizes community engagement, whereas the Hygienist role is clinical and patient-focused.

What does a dental public health specialist do?

A dental public health specialist focuses on preventing and controlling dental diseases at the community level through education, policy development, and program implementation. They analyze oral health data, promote oral health awareness, and collaborate with public health agencies to improve access to dental care, often working in clinics, government agencies, or research settings. Certification from the American Board of Dental Public Health is typically required.

What is the highest paying job in the dental industry?

In the dental industry, oral and maxillofacial surgeons are among the highest paid professionals, often earning high six-figure salaries due to their specialized surgical skills and extensive training. They typically require a dental degree, surgical residency, and board certification, and often work in hospitals or private practices. Their advanced expertise and the complexity of procedures contribute to their high compensation.

Who We Are
Smile Programs...the mobile dentists is the nation's leading in-school dental program founded more than two decades ago by two moms, who happen to also be dentists. The founders saw a tremendous need among underserved school aged children who did not have easy access to dental care and who often suffered from poor oral hygiene, tooth decay, pain and associated health problems.
Knowing that many parents could not take their children to the dentist due to issues including time off from work and transportation challenges, they sought to bring the care to the need.
Using the latest technology in portable equipment, a team of dedicated dental professionals provide preventive and restorative dental care to children right at school. Our flexibility and expertise allow us to transform classrooms, auditoriums, gyms or other suitable areas into fully functional dental offices for the day.
Every year, through its devoted group of dental professionals, Smile Programs...the mobile dentists puts happy, healthy smiles on over 500,000 children from coast to coast.
Join us in our mission to bring smiles and good oral health to where they are needed. Call or text us at 855-957-4375 or email jobs@mobiledentists.com. You'll be glad you did.
