What is a dental associate?

Dental associates are licensed dentists who work as employees or contractors within a dental practice, typically under the supervision or partnership of a practice owner. Their responsibilities include diagnosing oral health issues, performing dental procedures such as fillings and extractions, educating patients on oral hygiene, and sometimes supervising dental staff. Dental associates provide patient care but generally do not have ownership or management responsibilities in the practice. This role is often sought by new graduates or dentists who prefer to focus on clinical work rather than business operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dental associate?

To thrive as a Dental Associate, you need a comprehensive understanding of general dentistry, clinical procedures, and a valid dental degree with licensure. Familiarity with dental practice management software, digital radiography, and infection control protocols is typically required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and a patient-centered approach are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities ensure effective patient care, efficient practice operations, and strong patient relationships within a dental team.

What are some typical challenges dental associates face when transitioning to a new practice?

Dental Associates often encounter challenges such as adapting to new office protocols, integrating into an established team, and building rapport with existing patients. Each dental practice may use different technologies or workflow systems, so there can be a learning curve when familiarizing oneself with new tools and treatment planning processes. Additionally, Associates may need to balance productivity expectations with providing high-quality care, which requires effective communication and time management skills. Building trust with patients and colleagues is key to a smooth transition and long-term success within the practice.

Job description

Bensonhurst Dental is hiring a cosmetic dental associate to work with our patients, including a high-touch VIP clientele who expect both excellent clinical results and a polished experience. This is a clinical role with a public-facing side: we actively develop media and content around our doctors, and we'll do the same for you to help grow your patient base and reputation.
Who we're looking for:
  • You have at least five years of clinical experience since dental school and real cosmetic work behind you — veneers, smile makeovers, full-mouth rehab, and the case planning that goes with them.
  • You're comfortable with demanding patients and the discretion that comes with treating them.
  • You're also comfortable on camera and in front of an audience: press, social media, and content are part of how this practice grows, and we want someone who wants to be part of that, not someone who tolerates it.
Compensation:
  • $1,000–$2,500 per day, based on a percentage of collections with a guaranteed daily floor, so you're protected while you build your patient base and rewarded as you do.
  • We'll discuss the exact structure, CE budget, and benefits with serious candidates.

What we provide:
  • Beyond the clinical setup, we build media and content around our doctors — social, press, and the kind of profile that brings cosmetic patients through the door.
  • You bring the skill; we help put it in front of the right audience.

How to apply:
We care more about your work than your resume, so show us the work. Send the following:
  • Five before-and-after cases. For each one, include the photos and a short description of what was done and why — the patient's goal, your treatment plan, and the result. We want to see your judgment, not just your photography.
  • Your Instagram handle. Social presence is part of this role, so include it. We'll look at how you present your work and engage an audience.
Applications without all five cases and an Instagram handle won't be reviewed.
