Controls Engineer

We are partnering with an established chemical manufacturer to hire a Controls Engineer for its flagship manufacturing facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is a 100% onsite position supporting a plant of approximately 250 employees with no travel required.


The Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and supporting plant control systems, with a primary focus on Emerson DeltaV, along with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, and instrumentation. This individual will play a key role in plant reliability, process optimization, capital projects, and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, troubleshoot, and maintain Emerson DeltaV control systems.

• Support Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, and plant instrumentation.

• Support control system upgrades, startups, commissioning, loop tuning, alarm management, and process optimization.

• Provide automation and controls support for capital projects from design through installation, commissioning, and startup.

• Troubleshoot complex control, instrumentation, and process automation issues.

• Develop and maintain control system standards, documentation, backups, and cybersecurity practices.

• Maintain I/O lists, P&IDs, engineering drawings, and other control system documentation.

• Manage and support preventive maintenance and calibration programs using Maximo or a similar CMMS.

• Support plant historians, data collection systems, and reporting.

• Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractors to resolve issues and execute projects.

• Provide technical support and training to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.

• Identify and implement automation improvements that increase plant reliability, efficiency, safety, and production.


Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with industrial controls, automation, and instrumentation systems.

Hands-on Emerson DeltaV experience required.

• Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs required.

• Strong troubleshooting, commissioning, and process automation experience.

• Experience working within an industrial manufacturing or process plant environment.

• 3+ years of experience working with contractors and supporting project execution.

• Four-year college education preferred, ideally a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field. Relevant experience may be considered.

• Experience with Maximo or another CMMS preferred.

• Chemical, specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, oil and gas, or other continuous/batch process manufacturing experience is a plus.


Compensation & Location

• Base Salary: $125,000–$135,000

• Annual Bonus: 10%
