Job description

Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Transportation Manager, Dispatch, or the General Manager, the driver will be required to make deliveries of various products manufactured at Delta Metals LLC. The vehicles used to transport these products vary from ½ ton pickup trucks to semi tractors.
Essential Functions

  • Perform required pre-trip, during operation, and post-trip reports
  • Provide the upmost professionalism and customer service during delivery
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT (Department of Transportation)
  • Maintain and protect all property in clean presentable condition
  • Perform any other task assigned to improve operations
  • Operate DOT mandated ELOG (Electronic Logging Device)
Competencies
  • Previous experience or training that demonstrates the ability to do the job
  • Ethical conduct on and off the road during working hours

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibility
Work Environment
This job will require you to be outside in the elements year-round while loading and unloading the products. You will also be responsible for installing and removing tire chains during winter weather or as required by law.
Physical Demands
This job will require lifting heavy items at times, as well as ascending and descending the loads to ensure proper tie down. Sometimes, manually offloading will be required in certain cases. A driver is expected to be alert, fit for duty, and ready for the daily requirements.
Travel
The driver will operate under a “day haul” operation for the most part, but the load may require the driver to travel outside of the HOS (Hours of Service) per DOT regulations and stay the night away from home. Such expenses will be covered by Delta Metals LLC. Please refer to the Company policy for Overnight Stays.
Requirements
Must have a Class A CDL with air brakes and tractor trailer endorsements. Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screening.
Safety Sensitive Job
Safety sensitive position is a position where the employee holding this placement is responsible for his/her own safety or other people’s safety. It would be particularly dangerous if such an employee is using drugs or alcohol while on the job or distracted by any other means.
Working Hours
Normal business hours will vary with the time change and will start at either 6:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m., depending on time change. It will carry through the end of shift, depending on driver’s hours left. Monday through Friday are our normal operating days but will require Saturday delivery if production demands it. Drivers will be dispatched from the yard in Lamoni every morning; depending on delivery demands.

The driver is the last point of contact with our Company to the destination of goods. With that being said; customer service is a MUST with our drivers. Above all things in this position; safety is first, customer service is a very close second.
