Position Description
Delta Railroad Services is seeking an experienced construction estimator. The ideal candidate will be able to perform detailed takeoffs, handle preconstruction paperwork, prepare cost estimations, coordinate with suppliers, coordinate with customers, and attend bid meetings. This role requires an individual that is self-motivated, possesses strong communication/interpersonal skills, and be confident in their ability to develop and manage their assigned portion of the estimate.
This position is preferred to be in-office, with the flexibility for remote days, but may also be fully remote with one week per month spent in the office. In addition to office time, periodic travel will be required for site visits, bid meetings, and coordination as needed. To support collaboration and minimize travel time, remote candidates should ideally be located within approximately four hours of our Ashtabula, OH office. Candidates located in the New York City area may also work out of our NYC office as their home base. Candidates outside of these regions may still be considered if they have convenient access to a major airport to support efficient travel when required.
Job Responsibilities:
• Navigate through web portals, document sites, and network drives
• Review customer drawings and specifications
• Complete Take-Offs
• Communicate with suppliers
• Communicate with clients/customers
• Prepare Requests for Quote
• Prepare Requests for information
• Prepare and analyze bid costs (Using HCSS Heavy Bid)
• Review bid costs with management
• Draft and submit reports
• Facilitate award of projects to Project Managers
• Record bidding data
• Submittal and RFI processing
• Understand costs and prepare detailed cost analysis of a project direct and indirect costs
• Manage multiple assignments concurrently
• Generate sound documentation for scope of work assumed in estimates
• Maintain and sustain a well-organized approach & disciplined work ethic
• Work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Must be willing to travel
Position Requirements
Skill Requirements:
• Attention to detail and excellent time management skills
• Analytical and strong problem-solving ability
• The ability to communicate in a professional manner with suppliers, owner's representatives, coworkers and direct supervisors
• Ability to complete work and perform well under time pressure of bid due dates
• Must be able to work well with others
• Must be able to read and understand construction plans, drawings and specifications
• Must be able to perform drawing/quantity take-offs (Using Microsoft Excel)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proven written and verbal communication abilities
Work Experience Requirements:
• 5 years railroad experience preferred
• 5 years bidding experience/or 2 years track construction bidding experience preferred
Technical Knowledge Qualifications:
o Ability to create, and manipulate basic formulas in Microsoft excel
o Ability to create, format, and manipulate basic Microsoft word files
o Ability to navigate and utilize an organized company network folder structure
o Ability to edit and modify PDFs in Adobe Acrobat
o Ability to navigate numerous internet websites and file share systems created by suppliers
o Ability to set up and create a bid in HCSS Heavy Bid software
o HCSS software training will be available
Education Requirements:
4-year Construction or Technical college degree preferred
