Job description

Divisional Overview

The M&A Capital Markets ("MACM") team is an integral part of the M&A advisory business, responsible for providing differentiated advice on unique or complex merger matters. MACM provides capital markets insights and judgments on all aspects of strategic transactions, ranging from negotiating merger consideration to predicting and analyzing event-driven trading dynamics. The team has a broad mandate, pitching and executing mergers and separations across sectors, market caps and geographies.

MACM is looking for a new hire to join the team as a Vice President or Senior Associate. The position provides the opportunity to build a deep understanding of the M&A business, as well as the ability to have an immediate impact on some of the highest-profile transactions the firm works on. This individual is expected to take ownership of key workstreams, produce and present analysis to client management teams.

Responsibilities

This individual will be responsible for:

  • Helping senior bankers across Investment Banking advise clients on a diverse set of merger-related matters
  • Architecting and negotiating structured deal solutions (such as equity collars and cash/stock elections) in live M&A transactions
  • Leveraging data to create differentiated insights into the merger and equity markets for use in marketing and advisory
  • Performing and presenting analyses on trading patterns related to activism, mergers and other corporate events, including M&A buyer reactions, merger arbitrage, index fund trading, and activist accumulation
  • Evaluating investor sentiment around transactions by synthesizing investor feedback, trading desk color, market data, and sell-side research
  • Providing real-time judgments and insight into trading dynamics on high profile deals including hostile or contested M&A
  • Gauging the impact of acquisitions and separations on client valuations and equity stories
  • Overseeing, quality-controlling and enhancing the group's proprietary datasets

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5 years of relevant investment banking experience (equity capital markets and/or M&A)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence to interact with clients and senior internal leaders
  • Exceptional quantitative and technical skills, with experience in statistics or data science preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in and understanding of equity markets and the macroeconomic environment
  • Strong familiarity with valuation concepts (comparable multiples, DCF, LBO, etc.) and merger math
  • Basic knowledge of derivatives (e.g., call / put pricing, delta, etc.) preferred
  • Effective project management skills; ability to prioritize competing projects and deadlines
  • Ability to synthesize data into concise client-ready slides, memos, or talking points
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative, comfortable working 

Salary Range 
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150000-$300000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
