2nd Shift Local Truck Driver - Inventory Control VIII

Position Summary

This role will be responsible for facilitating the distribution needs of the company and transporting products from one location to another. Operates an over-the-road tractor trailer truck to deliver products to customers and back hauls supplies and materials for our operations.

*Must be able to work Monday - Friday 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with flexibility to work occasional Saturdays depending on business needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate a semi-truck with trailer(s) to deliver products to customer locations and/or haul materials to be received at our company operations.
  • Determine driving route to ensure most economical use of time and equipment and based on customer delivery schedule.
  • Position trailer and perform necessary parking functions for the shipping/receiving operations.
  • Unload or load products/materials manually as required.
  • Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup.
  • Submit, obtain, and maintain documents, such as shipping bills of lading, packing slips, and necessary signatures for the delivery or pick up of products/materials.
  • Inspect trucks and trailers to ensure working conditions of brakes, lights, wipers, windshield, fire extinguisher, flares and other safety equipment in the truck.
  • Fill up on fuel, clean truck, and wash windows as required.
  • Report to a dispatcher any incidents encountered on the road or with customer deliveries.
  • Monitor road conditions and report any unforeseen delivery changes.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or repairs to truck garage manager, clean equipment.
  • Follow accident procedures if an accident or driving violation occurs.
  • Maintain and report regularly a log of activities, condition of the vehicle and any cases of accidents or motor vehicle driving violations.
  • Use GPS equipment and electronically log driving records, such as mileage, or keep accurate paper records/logs as required.
  • Report serious mechanical problems to the truck garage manager immediately.
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT, OSHA and adhere to all company safety programs and policy requirements.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL Class A- non automatic endorsement)
  • Current DOT Physical Certificate
  • 5 plus years over-the-road driving experience
  • Operate a forklift to load/unload truck
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws, federal and state transport regulations, and defensive driving.
  • Competent driving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks, including repetitive lifting of up to 60 lbs. while loading/unloading shipments, overhead reaching and lifting.
