Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB:
This casual/as-needed position is responsible for demonstrating customer service mainly in the form of safely and efficiently transporting vehicles to and from designated locations. Because of the as-needed work schedule, Management provides assignments, while P&D Drivers inspect their equipment prior to leaving the facility.
JOB DUTIES:
Ensure Transport of Vehicles in Accordance with Company Policies & Procedures (P&Ps):
  • Obey traffic laws and regulations, including wearing seatbelts, avoiding texting while driving, and demonstrating a commitment to safe driving practices as well as following established traffic and transportation procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and obtain receipts related to fuel card usage, and travel expense reimbursement.
  • Timely and accurately submit receipts and any funds received from deliveries.
  • Present bills and receipts and collect payments for goods delivered or loaded.
  • Perform emergency repairs, such as changing tires.
  • Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.
  • Timely report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to management.
  • Follow safety procedures for vehicles' safe operation.
  • Maintain vehicles in good working condition.
  • Report vehicle or equipment malfunctions. Notify others of emergencies, problems, or hazards.
  • Maintain safe operation of equipment and job duties across a variety of weather-related conditions.

Verify & Inspect Vehicles
  • Verify vehicle documentation, including Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to ensure the vehicle matches the description of management's pickup/delivery request.
  • Visually inspect the vehicle for any operational or safety hazards, and unidentified vehicle damages. Document, including taking photos, as may be necessary.
  • Accurately complete the vehicle inspect form and promptly communicate any defects, mechanical problems, or missing items to management.

Perform Lead Driver Duties, as May be Assigned
  • When management may assign you as Lead Driver on a designated trip, provide appropriate supervision of one or more other drivers as well as ensuring limited decision-making and ensuring approvals, as directed by management.

General
  • Ensure prompt and regular attendance.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned by Management.
  • Travel as business needs may require.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, guidelines, and appropriate directives.

  • Personally commit to quality in all aspects of work.
  • Provide "World Class Customer Service" for internal and external customers.
  • Participate in and promote the established Quality Improvement Process (QIP) for continuous improvement.

Requirements
Education:
  • High school diploma/equivalent is minimally required.

Experience:
  • 2+ years of prior driving experience is minimally preferred.
  • Transportation industry experience is preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies:
  • Must possess and continuously maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Maintain scheduling flexibility to be on-call for job needs when needed and requested. This may include long time windows, weekends, holiday work, and potential for overnight travel.
  • Personally maintain a neat and clean appearance.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service, both internally and externally, and in a professional manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in professionally interacting with customers, Company employees, vendors, and the public.
  • Communicate professionally in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds in standing, bending, and rotating motions, as well as perform tasks in inclement weather conditions.
  • Demonstrate strong documentation skills to ensure all paperwork, receipts, invoices, and general documentation are maintained in accordance with company standards.
  • Ensure active listening in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Maintain reading comprehension in understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Maintain knowledge of principles and methods for safely and efficiently moving vehicles.
