What is the difference between Delivery Contractor vs Delivery Driver?

AspectDelivery Contractor
CredentialsMay require a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and sometimes a business license
Work EnvironmentIndependent, flexible hours, often working for multiple clients or platforms
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by gig economy companies, courier services, and independent delivery platforms

Delivery Contractors operate independently, often managing their own schedules and vehicles, while Delivery Drivers are typically employed directly by a company with set hours. Delivery Contractors have more flexibility but also more responsibility for their equipment and business compliance. Both roles involve delivering goods, but the contractor model emphasizes independence and self-management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a delivery contractor?

To thrive as a Delivery Contractor, you need a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, time management skills, and knowledge of local routes. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, route optimization apps, and sometimes courier management platforms is essential. Reliability, strong customer service, and problem-solving abilities help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure timely, accurate deliveries, build customer trust, and support operational efficiency.

What are some common challenges delivery contractors face and how can they be managed effectively?

Delivery contractors often encounter challenges such as navigating traffic congestion, managing tight delivery schedules, and adapting to last-minute route changes or customer requests. Staying organized, using route optimization apps, and maintaining clear communication with dispatchers and customers can help manage these issues. Additionally, keeping a well-maintained vehicle and planning for breaks can reduce stress and ensure timely deliveries. Building good relationships with clients and fellow contractors can also make daily tasks more manageable.

What is a delivery contractor?

Delivery contractors are independent workers or businesses hired to transport goods, packages, or food from one location to another. Unlike traditional employees, they typically use their own vehicles and manage their own schedules, providing services for companies like Amazon, FedEx, or food delivery apps. Delivery contractors are responsible for ensuring timely and safe deliveries, handling packages with care, and providing good customer service. They are paid per delivery, per route, or per contract, and are responsible for their own expenses such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, and insurance.

Job description

Join Our Long-Term Flyer Delivery Team - Flexible, Independent Work with Pay Per Delivery

Are you looking for a flexible, independent, and active way to earn consistent income over the long term? We're hiring Part-Time Flyer Delivery Contractors to distribute promotional materials door-to-door across neighborhoods in Beaverton, OR.

This is not an hourly job-your pay is based on production, not time. Each delivery route (called a "map") has a fixed payout based on the area's size, density, and difficulty-not how long it takes you to complete it.

We're looking for reliable individuals who can work long-term with us on a part-time, flexible basis. While you'll set your own hours, this is not a short-term gig. Ideal candidates will be open to on-call opportunities and committed to consistency and quality.

Why Join Us?

  • Flexible Schedule - Work mornings, afternoons, or evenings on your own terms.
  • Independent Work - No micromanagement. Deliver at your pace.
  • Stay Active - Get paid to walk, stay in shape, and enjoy the outdoors.
  • Listen While You Work - Bring your music, podcasts, or audiobooks.
  • Earn Based on Output - The more you deliver, the more you make.

About the Role:

  • Pick up flyers and delivery materials weekly from our designated location.
  • Deliver flyers door-to-door following your assigned route ("map").
  • Work independently to complete deliveries within agreed timelines.
  • Use your smartphone and GPS to track and verify completion.
  • Get paid via direct deposit within 2-4 business days after completing your map(s).

Important: Pay is Per Delivery - Not Hourly

Each map has a set payout, determined by the complexity of the route-not how many hours it takes you to complete it. You're paid per flyer delivered, and faster work means higher earnings.

Sample Map Payouts:

  • $0.20 per flyer (W1 Maps) ~120 flyers/hour = ~$24/hr equivalent
  • $0.25 per flyer (W2 Maps) ~100 flyers/hour = ~$25/hr equivalent
  • $0.30 per flyer (W3 Maps) ~80 flyers/hour = ~$24/hr equivalent

Note:

  • Routes are assigned weekly; specific locations are not guaranteed.
  • We do not offer hourly pay or accept rate negotiations.
  • Performance bonuses may be available for early completions.

What You Can Expect to Earn:

  • $200-$500 per week, depending on how many maps you complete.
  • Your income is based on your efficiency and number of maps completed.

Who We're Looking For:

This opportunity is ideal for:

  • Active individuals who enjoy working outdoors.
  • People looking for long-term, flexible, part-time work.
  • Students, retirees, stay-at-home parents, or anyone seeking supplemental income.
  • Reliable, self-motivated people open to on-call availability.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum availability of 12 daytime hours per week.
  • Comfortable walking for extended periods in different weather conditions.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and auto insurance.
  • A smartphone with GPS capability.
  • Dependable, communicative, and organized.

Role Details:

  • Contract Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
  • Scheduling: Flexible - choose 4- or 8-hour delivery windows
  • Flyer Pick-Up: Once per week from our Beaverton, OR office
  • Delivery Area: Varies weekly throughout Beaverton, OR area.

If you're seeking a flexible, low-stress, and long-term way to earn while staying active-and you're ready to deliver results, not just log hours-we'd love to hear from you.
