Summary:

The Deli Lead Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily deli operations, ensuring food quality, safety, and exceptional customer service. This role involves supervising deli staff, managing inventory, maintaining food preparation standards, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The Deli Lead Supervisor works closely with store management to optimize deli performance, implement promotions, and create a positive team environment. This position may be eligible for additional incentive opportunities based on role and performance.

Essential Functions:

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Oversee deli operations and supervise Deli Clerks during shifts to ensure efficient, customer-oriented service.
  • Provide instruction, training, and guidance to deli staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Assist in scheduling and delegating tasks to maintain smooth daily operations.
  • Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, and assist in conducting performance evaluations.

Customer Service Excellence:

  • Ensure the deli team delivers exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, requests, and complaints professionally and efficiently.
  • Encourage engagement with customers, including product recommendations and upselling opportunities.
  • Monitor service quality and implement improvements to enhance the customer experience.

Operational Management:

  • Coordinate inventory management to ensure the deli remains well-stocked with fresh, high-quality products.
  • Ensure accurate pricing, labeling, and merchandising of deli items in accordance with store standards.
  • Oversee the setup and maintenance of displays and promotional signage.
  • Maintain deli equipment, ensure cleanliness, and oversee adherence to maintenance schedules.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Enforce food safety, sanitation, and health regulations, ensuring proper handling, storage, and preparation procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Tribal policies, store procedures, and all applicable regulatory requirements.

Communication and Coordination:

  • Report deli performance, operational challenges, and inventory needs to the Store Manager.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to support store-wide goals.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform opening, closing, and cash management tasks as needed
  • Track and analyze sales, waste, and operational performance, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Handle other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations, sanitation procedures, and health standards specific to deli operations.
  • Understanding of deli-specific tasks including food preparation, product display, inventory management, and pricing.
  • Knowledge of inventory control practices, including ordering, stock rotation, and minimizing waste.
  • Knowledge of best practices in customer service, conflict resolution, and maintaining a positive shopping experience.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business, culinary arts, or a related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a deli, food service, or grocery setting, with previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Valid Food Handler’s Card or ability to obtain within 14 days of hire.
  • Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing cash registers, balancing cash drawers, and assisting with budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Strong ability to resolve operational challenges quickly and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift) in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for food preparation, handling small items, and operating kitchen equipment.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to retrieve items, clean work areas, and perform food prep tasks.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily based in the deli section of the convenience store, with occasional movement between other store areas.
  • Exposure to both cold (refrigerated sections) and hot (cooking areas) environments while handling food and managing food prep tasks.
  • Potential exposure to kitchen equipment (e.g., knives, slicers, grills), hot surfaces, and wet floors, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
