Job Title: Bakery/Deli Clerk Full Time

Department: Bakery/Deli

Reports to: Bakery/Deli Manager

Exempt Status: Non-exempt

Safety Sensitive:


JOB FUNCTION: Support Bakery/Deli department operations including department readiness, staffing, supervision, price maintenance, policies and procedures, inventory preparation, department financial goals and objectives, department cleanliness, and safe use of equipment and tools.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Bakery/Deli clerk will prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
2. Bakery/Deli Clerk may offer deli meat/cheese product samples if customers inquire about.
3. Bakery/Deli Clerk will be able to inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
4. Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size (or as close as possible to the amount ordered) to prevent shrink.
5. Recommend deli or bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
6. Properly use all kitchen equipment in bakery/deli department such as: computerized scales, fryers, refrigerators, freezers, ovens, proofers, slicers (automated and manual), steamers, and (gas) stove according to company guidelines.
7. Prepare foods according to the cooking instructions, and by maintain current food temperature logs.
8. Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe, using variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
9. Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
10. Check product quality to ensure freshness by review "sell by" dates and inform department manager.
11. Label and stock department merchandise as directed by department manager.
12. Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
13. Understand the store's layout and be able to locate products when requested by customer.
14. Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
15. Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products to customers.
16. Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained. Immediately notify department manager and/or store manager of equipment temperature issues
17. Promote trust and respect among associates.
18. Help to provide an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
19. Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
20. Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
21. Display a positive attitude.
22. Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any equipment items in need of repair.
23. Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
24. Report all safety risk, or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud to department and/or store management.
25. Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.


REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Basic mathematical ability (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and ability to count.
2. Able to give/receive complex verbal instructions/descriptions to/from supervisors/co-workers/employees concerning store/department policy/procedures and use of equipment.
3. Able to pass drug screen.
4. Work and educational history demonstrating stability.
5. Basic reading and writing ability; able to read instructions, merchandise labels, order codes, numbers, reports, printed paper invoices and order forms.
6. Follow directions concerning: the placement of merchandise on the shelf/display, pricing, product quality standards, order of product/supplies, departments operational policies and procedures and the sales/promotion of merchandise.
7. Good interpersonal communications.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:


1. High school diploma or equivalent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described below are representative of those that are required by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job


1. Move while conducting training and orientation of Deli Department personnel, approximately 25 yards
2. Move to supervise: the receiving of product, movement of product to the floor or storage area, opening/cutting of cases, inspect product quality, sorting of cases/merchandise, building of displays in the aisle and on the case/rack, order merchandise and supplies, cleaning and maintenance, removal of trash/debris from the department, price marking and signage throughout the store, approximately 25 yards.
3. Work on tile or concrete for a maximum of 4 hours in duration.
