Job description

The Deli Utility Clerk is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all Company policies, procedures and standards. The Deli Clerk position reports directly to the Deli Supervisor/Deli Manager, and the main responsibilities include;

  • Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints.  Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner. 

  • Performs all aspects of the Deli Utility function including but not limited to; stocking displays and facing in an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained.

  • Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes.

  • Performs general clean up duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure a neat and organized department is maintained. Responsible for ensuring the sales floor and back stock area are clean of cardboard and debris, including disposal of garbage.

  • Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.

  • Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools; and reports repair requirements to the Deli Supervisor, Manager or Duty Manager.

  • Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.

  • Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing / verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.

  • Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.

  • In stores, which have liquor licenses, adheres to all rules and regulations as set out by the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission. 

  • Prepares deli platters and trays, operates roasters and in locations with a deli till, performs all aspects of cash handling procedures of the till. 

  • In locations with a Bistro, assists with customer service and/or food preparation when required.

MINIMUM / ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 18 years of age in locations where product offerings include liquor.
Grade 9 or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
Previous retail or related experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Deli product knowledge/experience.
