Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Controller to join our client's finance team in the Aerospace and Defense industry. As the Senior Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial accounting, reporting, and analysis activities. Your expertise will be crucial in driving accurate financial information, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial guidance to the organization.
Responsibilities:
  • Heads the accounting operation and personnel, including the maintenance of accounting principles, practices, and procedures (specific focus areas of GAAP, FAR/DFAR/CAS requirements)
  • Directs and plans the maintenance of the company's financial records to include preparation of monthly and ad hoc financial reports. Reviews and analyzes the business activity and financial position in areas of income (P&L), balance sheet, statement of cash flow, inventory, manufacturing costs, direct and indirect expenses. Be able to assess costs appropriately based on past, present, and expected future operations.
  • Perform assessment on Month End close and implement efficiencies to lean up the performance period on Closing to include Quarterly and Yearly reporting requirements.
  • Oversees Fixed assets and depreciation requirements for those assets in accordance with GAAP.
  • Directs, compiles, and analyzes yearly Operating Plan and Organizational budgets and performance to the Operating Plan during the fiscal year. Develop and manage Indirect Rate Structures that are compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the organizations subject matter expert on accounting and compliance to published standards and procedures.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and execute organizational strategy and work with other departments to ensure cohesive policies and procedures.
  • Manage a small team to include all aspects within the management role (leads, directs, performs and reviews work as required for the department responsibilities as well as coaching, development of personnel, and ensuring accountabilities for all areas of the team.)
  • Track and maintain internal systems and accounting strategies to ensure accuracy and compliance to include routine review for regulatory changes and consequential effects to the company; Produce & provide training on any new regulatory requirements to personnel and to executive management.
  • Oversees Fixed assets and depreciation requirements for those assets in accordance with GAAP.
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert for all things Accounting & Finance Compliance

Qualifications:
  • Must be a US citizen and could receive a US government clearance (Top Secret or Secret preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or related field of study. CPA preferred.
  • Strong accounting background within Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), FAR/DFAR to include accounting system and other system requirements.
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of accounting within a defense contractor in a manufacturing environment.
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years of Controlling within a defense contractor manufacturing environment, to include Inventory processing and costing.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to work with multiple stakeholders (excellent written and verbal communication.)
  • Strong interpersonal and planning skills to lead change through influencing abilities.
  • Strong communication skills with all levels of personnel, customers, and vendors
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to lead a team while also doing tactical execution as a working manager.
  • Fosters collaboration and team building across all personnel.
  • Costpoint/Deltek ERM knowledge is preferred.
  • Small to medium defense business experience is preferred.
