Job description

We are seeking an experienced Robotic Weld Technician / Programmer to join a defense weld assembly manufacturing facility in Jackson, Michigan. This position will operate and program robotic MIG/TIG welding cells supporting complex defense-program weld assemblies.

This role offers the opportunity to grow through multiple competency levels, taking on increasing responsibility for robotic welding, programming, fixture setup, troubleshooting, quality, and process improvement.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of industrial welding experience, hands-on experience with robotic welding systems, and the ability to troubleshoot weld assemblies using CMM reports. Experience with Motoman, Panasonic, or Fanuc robot controllers is highly valued.

Because this facility supports defense contracts, export-control and facility-security requirements may apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot weld assemblies using CMM reports and inspection data
  • Recover robotic welding equipment from fault conditions and restart programs
  • Adjust robot points and welding parameters to maintain weld quality
  • Navigate PLC screens and select programs to support production changeovers
  • Apply GD&T principles to prints, layouts, and inspections
  • Change and set up welding fixtures for job and program changeovers
  • Operate and adjust robotic welders, including harmonizing, timing, and setup of new fixtures
  • Utilize offline programming (OLP) software to prepare robotic welding jobs
  • Independently troubleshoot robotic welders and coordinate with OEM/Miller support when necessary
  • Interpret CMM reports to identify build issues and develop corrective actions
  • Drive process improvements to achieve quality first-piece production
  • Support safe, efficient, and consistent robotic welding operations
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical trades training preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of industrial welding experience
  • Competency in Prototype Welding Technician Level 2 functions
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of the following robot controllers:
  • Motoman
  • Fanuc
  • Experience navigating PLC screens and selecting programs
  • Experience reading and applying GD&T
  • Ability to troubleshoot robotic welding equipment and production issues
  • For advanced-level responsibilities, verifiable offline programming experience using RoboGuide, RobotStudio, or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with production and engineering teams
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move items weighing more than 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the shift
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • No travel is expected for this position
Defense Industry Requirements
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • U.S. Person status may be required for ITAR/export-control purposes
  • Position may be subject to facility access badging, drug screening, and background check requirements specific to defense contracts

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled robotic welding professional looking to take their expertise to the next level while working with advanced robotic welding technology in a defense manufacturing environment.
