What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dedicated local driver?

To thrive as a Dedicated Local Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), a safe driving record, and knowledge of local traffic laws and routes. Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs), GPS navigation systems, and basic vehicle maintenance tools is typically required. Effective time management and familiarity with local roads can help mitigate delays, while good communication with dispatch teams ensures any issues are quickly addressed. Many drivers also benefit from building strong relationships with regular clients and utilizing route optimization tools provided by their employers to streamline daily operations.
